Well, my DH has been gone now for two weeks. Until today it was just training, but they have been called out for their very first forest fire.
I talked to him on the phone a little while ago and many tears were shed on both our parts. It's exciting and terrfying at the same time. They have to drive through the night and be in northern BC by 7:00 am, where they will join many other firefighters on a huge fire near Vanderhoof.
I love this man with all my heart, and am really being reminded why I have gone through all I have with him.
I'm trying to look on the bright side, there will be money coming in soon...and absence is DEFINITELY making the heart grow fonder.
If you could think of the four of us in your prayers...I would appreciate it so much, I'm feeling so vulnerable right now.
Lots and lots of good vibes and cheer heading your way, Linda! Try to stay strong for your own sake as well as his and the kidlets'. I know we Canadians hate to wish the summer away (we wait so darn long for it) but I hope it passes quickly so you can be with him again (and spend all that nice money he's making). Enjoy the kids, try not to worry (he's well trained and knows how to look after himself) and concentrate on looking after yourself so he comes home to a healthy and happy wife!
Awww, I can imagine how you're feeling - I miss Howie when it's just a day or two we're apart. Lots of prayers and good thoughts going up for your hubby, you and your family. (((hugs)))
I just saw a news bit about the fire they are fighting..18 hectares 0% contained..150 firefighters so far. It's not near any population *yet* and he had a good first day.
I feel a bit better and you guys have helped so much.
In Australia, my family lived at the edge of the bush (forest) and a couple of times we had bush fires up to the perimeter fence of our property, which was incredibly scary. Firefighters would stay with us until the fire was in control, I will always be grateful to those who put themselves through that for others.
Linda, you and your husband will be in my thoughts! It must be difficult being apart for such a long time, even though you know he's doing a wonderful thing.
I have the utmost respect for (okay, and sometimes little crushes on ) firefighters.
Linda, I saw the fire on the news this morning.. it's HUGE! Thankfully it's not near any cabins or towns yet... Did your husband have to work at the Kelowna fires? They were SO scary! Hopefully this cooler weather will help your husband and the rest of the firefighters out! Hope he keeps safe, and that he'll be home to you soon..
