Non Scale Victorys - November

I will start this thread for this month. I went to the vets office today. They have lawn chairs in there waiting room. I sat down in one and I noticed my butt was smaller than the chair. These were the the chairs in the past that I had to hold on to make sure they did not come up with me. So that made me real happy.

barbygirl43 11-01-2004 02:34 PM

WTG Howie. That is super.

I already have one for the month as well. I told myself last week that I would make a menu out (breakfast, lunch, dinner and acceptable snacks) for the week and I did. Now the goal is to make sure I stick to it. :)

howie6267 11-01-2004 02:46 PM

Good for you Dawnyal. You can do it.

Safora 11-01-2004 03:03 PM

I have re-begun my exercise plan starting today. I got my butt out the door and walked for 45 min.

Amanda Panda 11-01-2004 04:40 PM

Nice one Howie, Dawnyal and Victoria!

In the spirit of taking it 'one day at a time' I am writing myself out a daily menu each evening - this allows to take into account 'what I fancy'. I stuck to todays menu 100% and have tomorrows menu ready!

And I went swimming after a month long break!

Love Amanda x

Annie-Rose 11-01-2004 05:21 PM

Excellent Amanda, Howie, Dawnyal and Teresa!
xx Annie

jkfla 11-01-2004 05:44 PM

great job you guys!!!

i don't have any yet but hope to soon.

tolose85 11-01-2004 06:07 PM

Wow Howie, Dawnyl, Victoria and Amanda... Great news.. That is great great great!!!

You all are such inspirations, and I really need it right about now!

My NSV... I am wearing a 10 on a regular basis!! I can't even believe it! Next stop... size 8!

nelie 11-02-2004 12:45 AM

Ok I have 2 to share...

Today, I was at the store and saw some winter gloves, which I decided to try one without seeing what size it was. I put the glove on and it fit fine, in fact it was a bit too big. I checked the size and it was small. I was couldn't believe it, I've always had big hands for a woman. So then I tried on the extra small gloves, they fit perfectly, so I bought those.

The next one is me being stupid. I was at the gym and then I felt a spot right below my ribs that felt hard. I become concerned about having a hard spot that I didn't know what it was nor have I felt it before. I soon realized it was my abs. I've felt my abs before in the middle of my stomach but never towards the side, so now I can feel my abs on the side.

barbygirl43 11-02-2004 10:00 AM

Gretchen in a size 10 all the way that is super. I can't remember the last time I was in a size 10, probably 5th grade :)

nelie that is super that you have abs (I mean we all have abs to to actually feel them is awesome and then to be wearing super small gloves, wow. I think a medium is the smallest I've been able to squeeze my hands into.

howie6267 11-02-2004 10:53 AM

Nelie that is great. I know I can start to feel my ribs again. That is a nice feeling. Plus the added bonus of fitting into something smaller just tops it off.

Gretchen you skinny thing. Size 10 that has to feel great.

jkfla 11-02-2004 11:25 AM

i have one! yesterday i had a confernce with my son's teacher and i wore a VERY loose pair of 22 jeans (i'm actually kinda sad because they are my favorite jeans LOL but not sad enough to see them go) and a size 2X shirt!

so i guess i'm down a size all over. but i'm still having a bad week. been sick, the kids have been sick... the election has my stomach in knots. i can't wait for this week to be over!

Annie-Rose 11-03-2004 01:49 AM

That is just a great feeling when clothes feel looser! Hope you and your children are better soon.

SkinnyBoPeep 11-03-2004 11:57 PM

I can totally see the bony bumps on the outside edges of my wrists and I had to make my watch band smaller when it started spinning around. Love the bumps (can't stop looking at them, hope that doesn't sound too weird, it's just so cool)--they look like skinny girl wrists!!

Shelly, hope you're feeling better today and congrats on the smaller clothes!

jkfla 11-04-2004 09:57 AM

this is just awesome! i am so happy for all you guys!

i went shopping yesterday... found some stuff on sale that i couldn't pass up, even though i'm broke, because i needed some new clothes. so i got 2 shirts... size 22/24 !!! usually i have to get 26/28. and i got a pair of jeans. they are a juniors 19!!! (when i started WW i was in a 24W) they are a little snug in the butt and thighs (a huge problem area for me, even when i'm not so heavy) but i got them buttoned and zipped!

howie6267 11-04-2004 10:19 AM

Good for you Shelly that is awsome. There are so many success storys on 3FC it's great.

Sheila53 11-04-2004 01:58 PM

What wonderful NSVs, everyone! Love the "bumps." When I first felt a hip bone, I thought I had a growth.

I was looking back at some measurements, and I've lost 12 inches around my hips--an entire foot. I was pretty amazed.

jkfla 11-04-2004 06:56 PM

i think there are so many success stories BECAUSE of 3fc.

too funny about the wrist bumps and the hip bone growths! LOL

i think sheila mentioned this one but i've been COLD!!!! usually in the past during fall i can get by with a sweat shirt but its just not cutting it this fall. i dont know if its colder outside or what but you'd think that if a sweat shirt was working for me in 20 degree temps before it would certainly work in 40 degree temps... NOPE!

howie6267 11-04-2004 11:59 PM

Chinese anyone?

I went to the Chinese buffet tonight and did really well. I had 90% vegetables with a little fried rice and some chicken. Well within my calories for the day. It was kind of funny. I went by myself and I'm a fast eater anyway. First thing that happened the girl came up to me at the buffet asking if I would need anymore food put out. It was late so they don't have a whole lot of quantity out. I told her no. So I got my plate sat down and ate and then went to pay my bill. I was probably only in there 20 minutes. I think they were surprised that I did not stay and eat 2 or 3 plates. I'm sure there used to seeing someone my size come in and pig out. The girl at the register said oh your done so soon. Kind of funny but it made me feel good. I ate like a normal person.

SkinnyBoPeep 11-05-2004 12:40 AM

That's great, Howie! I think that's what we all crave-- to eat and feel like a "normal" person.

For all of us who love Chinese food, I got a great tip from one of my skinny friends. When you order a dish they are going to prepare for you (I like chicken and veggies), ask them to leave out the cornstarch used for thickening the sauce. A little has a lot of calories and carbohydrates if you are concerned about those. The food still tastes great and you'll never miss it.

glynne 11-08-2004 03:52 PM

While out shopping today, I was hungry for a snack ~ before, I would have gotten some chips and candy bars or cookies. Today, I had one of those starkist tuna lunch things (tuna salad on crackers) and a little container of low sugar jello with fruit pieces.

heather_dw 11-08-2004 04:23 PM

great job everyone! i dont have anything as cool to report, but I had to laugh about the hipbone thing.
That is starting to happen to me. A few weeks ago, i was laying on my side and was like,..what is this all about? what is this hard thing?" I had to have hubby come over and check it out. he said "dork, that is your hipbone!" I had to check the other side to be sure,.. and sure enough, there it was,.. i can never remember being able to do that before. i cant do it when im standing,..yet but i hope it will get there eventually.

Also, I have been doing bicep curls and other things like that with my 5lb weight while i watch tv. I noticed yesterday that whereas usually my arm is all flabby,.. now it is still flabby, but there is a part in the middle where it is all drawn up,.. both of my arms look like fluffy W's... i never noticed that before,.. im hoping it is the beginning of new arm muscles,.. :-P I'm keeping my fingers crossed

djs06 11-08-2004 05:25 PM

I love reading these! Good job, everyone.

I finally have one, and it's kind of silly. I usually avoid the free weight room at the gym because muscle men scare me, but tonight I went and did my reps and didn't let it intimidate me. It felt really good. I couldn't do all of the exercises I wanted to do because I was still a little intimidated, but maybe next time.

Annie-Rose 11-08-2004 06:29 PM

I don't think it's silly Dana, I know what you mean and I think it's great you just went for it.

:strong:

jkfla 11-08-2004 06:50 PM

great job everyone!!!

today i took the kids for a drive around the park and saw a woman jogging... i sooooo badly want to be able to jog again!!! so i'm re-motivated and tomorrow is the start of my re-start. i've done much better the past 2 days but still not perfect... small changes, small changes. i will be back to where i was before i tripped this last time.

SkinnyBoPeep 11-08-2004 09:43 PM

You can do it, Shelly! You show that invisible 20 pound mark that you are MUCH STRONGER than it is!!!

Fitbabe 11-08-2004 10:22 PM

Great job everyone! I agree with you Howie - it feels amazing when you know you have eaten like a "normal" person. I love turning down second portions now. And I love that I don't crave chocolate cake and sugary sodas like I used to...

I just realized that I can see my collarbone - it's no longer hidden behind a layer of fat!

howie6267 11-08-2004 11:56 PM

Great job everyone. Healther that is great you can start to feel bones. That's always fun. Dana congrats on going to the gym. I that that stop me too. I still have not joined the Y. Shelly you can do it just take it one day at a time.

SwimGirl 11-09-2004 12:02 AM

Well, I'm sure you all know mine.... I've quit sugar and coffee and wheat... this is a continious thing for me. But I figure at least I'm aware that I shouldn't be having those things, and make an effort to quit them every 6 months.. lol. I'm hoping this time will last longer, or at least long enough for my body to start to work normally. Congrats everyone on your NSV's :)

lessofsarahtolove 11-13-2004 11:18 PM

Great NSV's everybody!

My jawbone is now completely visible, my forearms have visible muscles, and my shoulders are like ROCKS -- and so much smaller! My neck has really thinned out a lot too, and when I put my head back, it's like, you know......a THROAT! With visible tendons and muscles and everything! (It's been a long time since I've seen THAT on myself, I'll tell you.)

I'm also now getting that "hungry for exercise" feeling that Jen (teapotdynamo) was talking about on the exercise thread -- now certainly the sky will fall down upon us. ;)

Pretty cool!

SwimGirl 11-13-2004 11:49 PM

Woohoo! Go Sarah! I love it when muscles become visible, it feels like you are working for SOMETHING! Keep it up :) I am always impressed with your devotion to exercise and proper eating, how about packaging some of that up and giving it to me for christmas? ;)

I have another one! I bought some pants in Seattle which were a little too small, I really really shouldn't have bought them, but I was in LOVE with them. Also, my brother paid, so they were free for me :) Anywho! I put them on to show my bf how much I still needed to lose in order to do them up, and they DID UP! Like I could wear them out done up! I'd still like to smooth out some of that tummy though. It's a start!

Keep those NSV's coming ladies and gentleman!! It means so much more than the numbers sometimes!

-Aimee

Sheila53 11-14-2004 07:26 PM

These November NSVs are absolutely the best! Kudos to everyone!

Here's my new NSV. After reading here that consignment shops may be the way to go, I took myself to one yesterday. I was quite nervous because I only buy Old Navy jeans because I know I can get into a sz. 12 quite handily, and an uncomfortable sz. 10. But I was worried that any other brand wouldn't fit. So I took a sz. 12 and a sz. 14 into the dressing room, all the while thinking, "What if neither of these fit? What if I'm really a size 16?" I was way out of my comfort zone. But I tried the size 12 no-name brand jeans on, and they fit perfectly! I didn't even put the sz. 14s on. I then went way out of the box and tried on a 3-piece outfit in a sz. 12 that I liked, and, lo and behold, it fit wonderfully. It's true, it's not a fluke--I really can fit into a sz. 12, any sz. 12!

teapotdynamo 11-15-2004 09:16 AM

Wow, that's great, Sheila! I'm sure we all can relate with taking in various sizes and the little games we play with ourselves about them. But a size 12 is FANTASTIC. I bet you're gonna save all kinds of money on clothes now that you can comfortably thrift shop! Congrats!

tkdkathy 11-15-2004 11:42 AM

Can I join you? I am new here, but I want to congratulate all of you on your victories. I think it is great that there is a place to record non-scale victories. Mine is that yesterday was my daughter's birthday, and I had just one small piece of cake, and took the time to enjoy it. Before, I easily could have had several pieces during the afternoon, evening, next day, etc....cutting down seems to be realistic for me. But I am happy I limited myself. :)

kjk123 11-15-2004 07:50 PM

Great NSVs, everyone...I just began (again) today, but I feel like I had a small victory of my own today. I made a menu for breakfast and lunch and stuck to it. I also made it through a whole day of work without a single drop of soda! To me, that's a big deal...probably also why I now have a huge headache. I got stuck at work really late today, so my exercise plans kind of got blown away. But I'm hoping that tomorrow, I can continue to stick to my food plan, and also get in that exercise! Way to go everyone!!!

howie6267 11-15-2004 08:18 PM

Good for you Kelly. I'm glad you did so well today.

rebelridergirl 11-16-2004 11:54 AM

Those are really great non scale victories. I know I'm posting late on this one, but I'm new! LOL! My victory for the month so far is that I can slide my jeans off easily without having to unbutton or unzip. No, this isnt the way I normally undo my pants, but I just tried it! It sounds kinda wierd, I guess, but I'm happy about it!!

Nellie and Howie I totally remember those days of "finding" body parts all of a sudden. One day when I was down to about 190 I was laying in bed napping on my stomach and it hurt so bad, couldn't get comfortable for anything. When I really got to seeing what hurt, it was my ribs that poked into my bed. It was such a new feeling. I had always had so much cushion before! That is so wonderful you guys! Keep it up!!

SkinnyBoPeep 11-19-2004 07:29 PM

Hee hee, rebelridergirl! I did the SAME thing with my pants the other day just to prove I could do it! So that makes me weird too...

My NSV comes from 4 airplane flights I was on for the business trip I took this week. When I flew last in August, I almost couldn't buckle my seatbelt and nearly had to ask for an extender.... :fr:

Three little months later (insert drumroll here) I had more than SIX INCHES OF SLACK IN THE SEATBELT on every flight!!!!!!!! :encore:

Hallelujah!

Sheila53 11-22-2004 11:49 PM

Wow! Six inches of slack--wonderful! I can just see you sitting there with this big grin on your face.

I bought a pair of knee high boots this weekend. I've never worn boots before (always afraid I couldn't get them around my calves), and always wanted to. Of course, I could barely walk in them, but they looked darn good! And they were a half size smaller than I normally wear, as are my new water shoes.

Also, as my DH and I were walking out of the restaurant tonight, he said, "that coat is so big on you." I bought the coat last November to wear to my daughter's graduation from boot camp. Unfortunately, it's the only good coat I have, and I haven't worn it that often. I suppose I could try to take it to a consignment store and see if I could get a couple of bucks out of it.

howie6267 11-23-2004 11:25 AM

Great vitorys all of you. I am just so on plan lately. It's like I had some trouble a couple of times in the summer and all most lost it at the end of summer but now I am just so on it's wonderful. I hope I stay in this gear. I so badly want to see 299 by spring.
