  • I am feeling a bit better today, got started on some antibiotics yesterday, looks like strep throat. I have a bit of a stuffy nose but this is completely unlike any cold or sore throat I have ever had before. I've never got this long with a sore throat and the glands in my neck are so swollen and tender that the rest of my neck and shoulders hurt too. also very sore along my jaw and into my ears. I don't have an ear infection thank goodness but they are not draining properly because of my sore throat. It's hard to eat much or even drink much unless it is room temperature. Cold water hurts too much.

About this plan. Okay this is going to be difficult to follow because I would guess most of us are REALLY used to eating carbs like bread, cookies, pasta etc, etc. Hey let's face it, we wouldn't be here in the 100 lbs club if we didn't have some food issues. The best thing I can say is to do your best. Work on staying away from those carbs but if you slip up, you slip up. I slipped up on the first day for crying out loud but I've been on track today. Let's keep in touch on how it is going.
  • Good Morning!
    Good Morning Everyone!!!

Well the first day didnt go as good, I had a sandwich for supper, I knew exactly what I was doing, We are going grocery shopping today so I will get tonnes of veggies,

I have a question, that new Atkin bread would that be fine? like could we have two slices instead of one? I think so...

Well so far is going good, hopefully a lot better then yesturday....

JEN I hope you feel better....being sick really sucks, make sure you drink lots of water

    Have A Great Day!!!!

Amanda,I don't know about the bread.I get a flax seed bread from wall mart and it is real big slices.I cut them in half and it is like 2 pieces.I think it is nickles midwest grains bread. It is very good.
jen i sure hope you get to feeling better.I know what it feels like as most of my life i have delt with bad sore throats and ear ache. You need rest and chicken broth Take care sheila
  • Hi all. Well the good news is that I am feeling so much better. I feel like a new human being. The bad news is that I indulged my feeling ill by being so far off the plan it isn't funny. Okay so I had a bad couple of days, today I am feeling very positive and back on track. I'm so glad to hear that others have stayed focused and managed to get through the past few days successfully. You guys inspire me!

Amanda, I can't say that I know much about the bread right now. I will have a look in Dr.Phil's book and post back later today on what he says.
  • Just checking my local library website. Dr.Phil's book (ultimate wt loss) has 125 holds on it! Wow. Also noticed that he has a cookbook coming out, well it's probably already out by now but the library hasn't got it yet. It is on order with them so I put a hold on it just to have a look. I"m not much into cookbooks but there might be some good ideas in it.

Amanda - I had a look through my food guide and I think the idea is to cut out bread altogether at this phase of the plan and eat whole grains in the whole state or in some sort of cereal. However you have to do what you think is best for you. I'm hardly the voice of Dr. Phil and certainly not perfect myself. (not after what I ate this past weekend!) So I think that as long as it is fairly low carb and low fat you are probably fine with a slice or 2 of bread early in the day.
  • Hi folks,

It was tough not to weigh myself this week but I vowed I wasn't going to weigh in until the end of the two weeks and that is what I am going to do. My weekend went well. I didn't get as much spring cleaning done as what needs to be done but I was dragged out from work last week.

The eating is going well. Foreman Grill is always my best friend. I was never a person to really like vegetables all that much and it is funny because they are the staples of my diet now. Interesting how we can change when we want to. All is well, trying to stick to the program and excited to see what the two week induction does to my weight. By the way, I haven't read the book - what happens after the two weeks? I assume you just add a few more carbs back in but I am not sure. If any of you very wise women know the answer to this question, please drop a line.

Keep going ladies, we can do this!

  • doing great
    Hi guys
I am just checking in.I am doing good.I have been sticking to it.I havn't had a problem yet.I got the book at wall mart the other day.I am so glad that i finially decided to do this.I can just see myself a year from now I am mostly doing this to get my blood pressure down and to have better health. My boyfriend and i are doing it together. He has high chosterol and needs to get it down. How are you guys doing? Are you having any problems? post and let me know how you are all doing.sheila
  • I wasn't going to give in and weigh myself until the end of the 2 weeks but yesterday at work I stepped on a scale and imagine to my surprise that it was a few pounds less that what I started at a week ago. So I decided I would weigh in today and guess what!!! I have lost 5 lbs!!! I know that it isn't because I'm dehydrated (as has happened with me before) and it is actually that time of the month so normally I retain water like mad and I"m usually up 5 lbs. I felt like crying this morning after weighing in and I had to post right away and let everyone know that it does work!!! Gosh and I had a few days where I didn't even do that great. Imagine what I might have lost if I had been on plan those days? Well this is a huge motivator to really stick to the plan. I hope everyone else is doing well. If I can do it, then so can you!
  • Wow! Congratulations, Jen! Give yourself a big pat on the back. You're doing super!
  • Hi all. Well this 2 week program is starting to wind up, tomorrow (May 5) will be the last day and then Thursday I hope you will weigh in and either post how you have done or PM me. I'd like to know how everyone did. I know right now there about 3 or 4 of us that are still on the plan and I wanted to know if you wanted to continue on with the next phase of dr. phil's plan. If so and you don't have a book I will post here what the next phase entails (mostly just adding another carb and some other things you can have ie fruit juices) and we can go from there. Personally I was going to go on to the next phase for 2 weeks and see how that goes. If I am not losing then I might go back to the rapid start plan for another 2 weeks. Dr. Phil recommends just going on it for 2 weeks at a time but if I am perfectly honest it's not like I have been following it right to the letter! But I'll give the other one a try first and see how it goes.

So how is everyone doing? What is your evaluation of the plan so far? I think it has really helped me cut back on my snacking because if I think I want something to snack on like a cookie I can usually cut myself off before I eat it by thinking to myself "that's not on the plan" and then I start thinking how I will just feel worse after I eat it and that I'm not really hungry anyways. Also I think eating more veggies has been really great. I don't think I've ever eaten this many veggies in my life! Also drinking more water too and that has helped me a lot in other ways too I think.

Take care all and let me know what you would like to do after Wednesday. Thanks.
  • Still here
I have had that new virus that was going around.I finially after a week got rid of it thanks to the people on the tech tv board. I forget what i started out at but i now weigh 213 so i think i lost some.I will write it down next time.I am going to continue on with this plan.I like it better then any other.Jen you are doing great. You should be so proud.Keep up the good work.Hope to hear how the others are doing also.sheila
  • Hi all. I'm just going to do a really quick post for what is going on for phase 2 of dr.phil's plan, if anyone has questions please ask here or PM me.

You may include to the other foods already listed: fruit juice, canned fruit (packed in water), canned veggies, soups, whole grains in the form of: bread, muffins, crackers, whole wheat and spinach pasta, nuts and seeds, reduced fat peanut butter.

The meal plan is the same as before except you can add a starchy carbohydrate at lunch. Also you can replace your fruit serving with fruit juice or canned fruit. Nuts and seeds and reduced fat peanut butter count as fat servings. The whole grains and the foods I listed would count as starchy carbohydrates.

Looking forward to weighing in tomorrow and posting some good results!

Sheila - you gave me a beginning weight of 218 when we started 2 weeks ago so therefore you have lost!!
  • I finished up at 228, so that is a loss of 6 lbs over 2 weeks. Considering that I didn't 100% stick to the plan I think that is a pretty good start. How did everyone else do?
