Thumbs down #203 Miss Independent

Hey Everyone~

How was your weekend? Mine was really pretty alright. The usual-- football friday, friend/church Saturday, sat at home Sunday. Lots of exercise in though. It's been almost 60 degrees here this weekend!!!! Whoohoo!

I'm feeling really super independent right now. My dad is gone for a week from yesterday and I'm staying at home by myself! I've stayed home alone for weekends before, but never a week. I just talked to my dad on the phone and he's so cute. I think he was going to cry when we said goodbye. This house seems *really* big because there's only two of us in it and 1000000 times bigger when he's gone. I haven't gotten too freaked out yet, so that's a good thing. Usually I wind up scaring the **** out of myself at least once It's interesting, solitude....

On a more jovial note--
ONLY 4 DAYS OF SCHOOL THIS WEEK! FRIDAY IS OFF FOR TEACHER INSERVICE! WHOOHOOOOO!!!!!!! YEAH!

Have a great week ya'll. *Love*

I coulda sworn I posted to this thread! Now it's not here.

Apryl, I am glad you had a good weekend. Is someone checking up on you this week, a neighbor or someone? I'd do it, but you're an 8 hour drive one way!

I leave for NYC on Thursday am @ 6:50am & am not sure how much internet access I'll have, so please bear w/me on that. I can't wait to see DB, which leads me to:

Just got done talking to DB. He's been diagnosed w/Type 2 diabetes. I go to see him on Thursday, can't wait to give him a big hug. I have no idea what this means, so anyone who does, please feel free to clue me in.

My best friend the dr came home to a Dear John letter from the boyfriend who insulted me. Good riddance to bad rubbish but it doesn't make my friend's heart feel any better. I am trying to be supportive, as he has asked 'could you hide your glee?'.

Type 2 diabetis is adult onset diabetis. It will be a really good idea if he can find a good diatician to work with. My mother and 7 of her siblings are type 2 diabetics and my mothers is completly controlled by diet once we reduced the amount of carbohydrates we consumed. I hope he has a really great dr that can guide him. I hope you have a GREAT time visiting him...

SPF - Funny, the Cute Boyfriend and I just had a discussion about Type 2 diabetes. His blood sugar suddenly dropped on Sunday and it was a very suspicious sign of Type 2. http://www.diabetes.org/main/type2/type2.jsp

Here's some basic info:
Diabetes is a disease that impairs the body's ability to use food. The hormone insulin, which is made in the pancreas, helps the body to use food for energy. In people with diabetes, either the pancreas doesn't make insulin or the body cannot use insulin properly. Without insulin, glucose - the body's main energy source - builds up in the blood.

Approximately 90-95% of Americans with diabetes have type 2 diabetes -- about 16 million people.

Diet and exercise are the best and easiest way to treat and prevent type 2 diabetes.

Default Proposal

Aprylcadabra - enjoy your week. Sure, being by yourself can be a bit scary, but it can also be fun!

Well, I just had a most wonderful weekend. On Saturday, Steve brought me to the coast of Maine to some rocks in front of the Nubble lighthouse and proposed! He's such the romantic. There were a few people around and they were smiling. They knew what was going on. One of them offered to take some pictures, and we gratefully accepted. It was so cute. Besides the ring, he bought me a rhinestone tiara which I was wearing for the occasion. He calls me his princess and said I had to have a tiara. He also gave me some beautiful red roses. We had a wonderful dinner afterwards at a restaurant where they gave us an oceanside table. Yes, I wore the tiara. The host announced our engagement to the rest of the room and we got applause and congratulations all around. Then we went to another restaurant for desert. Eventually, we drove back to NH and visited our families where I got to show off my ring which is absolutely beautiful! Quite the day!

Sunday, Steve and I drove down to Connecticut to visit my grandmother who is very ill right now in the hospital. Steve got to meet my grandmother, my aunts and my uncles and they got to meet him. I knew they'd like him.

My eating has been absolutely outrageous during this time between restaurant meals and celebrations, but I'm just not worrying about it. I can tone it down later. Not now.

Jeanne....sigh, how sweet and romantic - you're both so lucky to have each other. Congratulations (again)

Apryl's going to wish she never told us - we're going to be a bunch of clucking surrogate moms all week...it may have something to do with remembering what it was like being your age and the things we used to get up to

Jeanne! That is like an absolute FAIRY TALE! Omg, I'm going to cry! Congratulations! This is *great.*

Yes, my dad calls every night and I'm sure that my entire close-knit neighboorhood is watching my every move. Not to mention all of my friends are watching out for me too... and my big sister is getting here Thursday or Friday. *At ease, ladies. At ease.* And this isn't the first time I've stayed alone, just the longest period. It is weird to have no one to answer to! Heehee.

I've never been in trouble in my life, and I don't intend to start now, I promise. ;-) Ta-ta everyone! -Apryl

I have no groceries in my house.

Most of the grocery stores in my area have picketers in front because of the employee strike. I won't cross the picket line.

The three grocery stores that do not have picketers are packed. Lines like crazy.

It's a good chance to eat all this food in my cupboards. You know, those cans of stuff that you buy and they don't see the light of day for a decade? You would be amazed at how much pearl barley I have. Heck, I was amazed! Who knew I even bought it?

Anyway, they say the stike may last two months. Do you know how many angry people there will be around thanksgiving?

Apryl, How are you doing? Now I'll be worrying about you until your dad gets back. Can't help it, it's just a mom thing. Stay safe and post often so we know you're doing okay.

Jessica, 2 Months!! Wow, you'll have to be pretty creative to get through 2 months with just what you have in your cupboards. You should post some of your ingredients and we'll come up with some crazy recipes for you! How far is it to drive to a store where they're not striking?

Jeanne, I'm so excited for you!! Congratulations, he sounds wonderful! We still want to see pictures of the ring, and pictures of the two of you together too!

SAPF, I'm sorry that your brother isn't well, but hopefully he'll be able to control it with diet and exercise. I hope you have a great visit, and he's very lucky to have you there to help him and support him.

don't worry apryl i used to get scared when i was living at home alone. i remember the first time i was 16 and had 2 weeks alone. i slept with cricket bat under my pillow. also i have a big fear of being in a well lit house at night. so i used to walk round all night with the lights out. i don't like the idea that people in the dark can look into the light and see you but you can't look out and see them. to many horror movies as a kid

Thanks for the info, SkinnyJulie. I'll have to catch you on IM & let you know how it goes.

Jeanne, we want pics of the ring!!! He sounds like such a wonderful man, who treats you soooo well, as you deserve to be treated. I'm very happy for you.

Thank you for the info, dear Goddess. He goes to see a dietician tomorrow, we'll know more after that. My gripe: what is the point of dating an Italian chick who loves to cook if you can't have pasta or bread? Bah. My suggestion for the groceries is to make do as best you can. My friend Kat in San Diego said the picketers all cheered her when she honked at them. PS When you posted the pic of the Cute Boyfriend, this went through my head, "I'm Jessica's boyfriend. And I'm cute."

Apryl, no house parties for you then! I'm glad your neighbors are looking out for you & that your sis is coming. We worry, because we love.

Kim, DB is not my brother but thanks for your support. All I can do at this point is be there for him.

Si, I know what you mean about too many scary movies as a kid. Too much Poltergeist = me sleeping w/the lights on. And NO CLOWNS!! EVER!!!!

So where the heck is everyone this week? I would like updates on Sandi, Sherry, synger, Holly, Miss Chris, BethAnne, Dana, Daners, and everyone else I've missed. I'll be gone until November 3, so I'll miss you guys! But will be back before you know it.

yeah, i've been gone a few days. i've been busy and too tired to get on the computer, then kinda down on sunday, then i was home sick yesterday and i could have signed on, but i felt too horrible to even LOOK at a computer.

head cold + tummy ache + TOM a week early = very unhappy holly.

i'm back at work today, sniffles and all. my exercise has been severely lacking, as in, i was a lazy *** for a few days and then i got sick. i haven't worked out since... last thursday? i'm not going to tonight but i hope to be back on track tomorrow.

my calories have still been in the 1200-1500 range, pretty much. i even had pizza for dinner last night, cuz i ate barely anything all day and that was the only thing that sounded good. and a sick girl needs her caloires for healing energy!

i don't weigh for one more week. i'm not thinking i'll have a huge drop, maybe 3 pounds for the whole month. but the cool thing is, i am going to a halloween party so i had to try on the glenda dress... it fit!! that was my halloween goal. so yay.

i'll be back in a few days. worry if i'm gone for more than 5 days, k? start PMing me! ;P
