Impossible Expectations

  • I know that 3FC doesn't endorse any of the products advertized here (good or bad ones), but I click on them to register the "hits" to benefit the site.

Some of the ads kill me - talk about sending wrong messages and offering impossible expectations! For example:

"Lose 10 lbs. in 2 days. Lose up to 27 lbs per week. Results guaranteed."

No wonder people become discouraged and lose motivation when these products don't live up to their promises! Boasts of this sort are dangerous on many levels - they don't promote a change to a healthy lifestyle or a balanced, nutritious diet.

Thankfully I'm not so gullible or naive to think I can actually be at goal in a week, and I'm content to wait out the months (and months) ahead equipped with the knowledge I've gleaned over the past year and a half (almost).

There is no quick fix and I think it's almost criminal they're allowed to claim otherwise - BUYER BEWARE!
  • My favorite ad (it's on TV--I watch more TV than I should because I have to lie down a lot and holding a book for too long hurts) is some pill that markets itself as ephedra free. They show pictures of people who look just fine to me, but seem to be wearing clothes that may be too small, and then show after pictures of the same man only with washboard abs and the woman with an incredibly toned body. So the ad makes it seem like all you have to do is take a pill, lose 25 lbs., and you will have a highly toned body that looks like you've spent hours in the gym, which, of course, is the only way you're going to look like that.

My DH and I laugh about that one all the time.
  • most of the pills just remove water stored under the skin. for example one well know thermogenic i lost 12lbs in 3 days like it said but was just water weight. after that i only lost 2lbs a week.
