  • Ok So I have been big my whole life. I can remember being in 3rd or 4th grade and being publicly weighed and at that age I was already 90 + lbs. My mother comforted me with food and drink... So now I associate food with good feelings. "Oh you hurt you knee here have a candy bar... bag (not serving size FAMILY size bag) of chips and a two litter to your self. NOW I am 27 years old and I can recognize this is a problem. I also did not find out till I was 25 that I have a low thyroid condition... I also grew up with older siblings who when I ate would get in my face and say things like "You know I think I can HEAR her getting fatter!" and "I bet if you cut her instead of blood gravy would come out!" Which you would think my parents would have step in at that but my dad was found of the rhyme "Rolly polly daddy's little fat girl" He would grab me and sing this to me no matter how I struggled to get away he would just keep singing. So with wonderful encouragement like that I dont know how I did not get a eating disorder. But here I am I want to change I want to be better I have a husband who loves me and I love with all my heart and a new baby who I need to be around for. SO now I do have the right people in my life now to make the right changes, I will need your help too which is why I am here.

  • Welcome, welcome!
Something that has really worked for me when I'm craving food to seek comfort is the amino acid phenylalanine. I read about it in Dr. Susan Ross' Mood Cure book.

  • Welcome and congratulations on your progress so far!
  • Welcome Rebecca..nice to meet you
  • Welcome and good luck on your journey!!
  • Welcome!!!
  • Best of luck, Rebecca! It sounds like you have the motivation--which is more than half the battle. You will find the support you need here.
  • Welcome!! You can do this. I am sorry you had to go through that as a kid. It's hard, but you can do it. I come from a similar background, but was not teased, but given food at every waking moment for any reason whatsoever. Hang in there and keep going. You will do this and teach your new baby good habits instead of bad.
  • Thank you all for the warm welcome!
  • Hi Rebecca, good luck...I'll be here for you too.
  • WELCOME!
Remember that when people say unkind things to you it's really more about THEM than you. (if you know what I mean) That being said... I know it's very hurtful to hear those things.

Folks here at 3fc are very supportive and friendly. Glad you posted.
  • Hi Rebecca! Welcome! I am glad you have decided to make this journey for yourself now.

I totally hear you on the family/childhood thing. My Dad would call me the Crisco Kid or as I walked by would say "it must be jelly cause jam don't shake like that".

This is an incredibly supportive group of people here and I wish you all the strength and willpower you will need for your journey.
