Darn Stubborn Midsection Blob

  • Hi all! I am super thankful that my weight has been coming off the way it has. I really feel like I am melting and I look better all the time. That said I feel like the weight is coming off in weird waves. My face, shoulders, chest, collarbone area thinned out really fast. From the chest up I look like a completely different person! And from the waist down I have been thinning very quickly too. I was a snug size 24 in August. Now my 20's are too big and although I can zip them my 18's are too tight for public viewing. LOL. But the huge blobby stuff around my midsection just stays there! It has definitely gotten smaller as I have lost weight, but not by a lot. It is getting really frustrating because I still can't wear dresses etc because my midsection is significantly bigger than my hips and only slightly smaller than my chest. Does that make sense? Any suggestions? I assume it will eventually melt too, but it is really upsetting me. Does anyone have a tip on a machine (I do go to the gym) or exercise that would help this along??

    Thanks for any ideas!!
    Liz
  • Hey girl. I carry most of my weight in my midsection and still do. I didn't really notice a difference in size until I hit closer to the low 200's (my highest weight was 265) BUT that doesn't mean it won't change for you. What I've noticed that really helped how I feel are working on my core with exercises like planks, renegade rows and inch work. It's more strength training but it's changing my shape. But the thing is, we can't control were the fat comes off, I think the best thing to do is just keep at it and realize the fat will have to leave at some point, you might as well strengthen the muscles underneath in the meantime? I feel better with the jiggly flab cause it feels tight underneath, if you know what I mean? But I hear ya too, it can be so frustrating!
  • Agreed, you can't spot reduce, but I also think strength training would be your best bet! Work that core, and try to be patient--I promise you'll see a difference as time goes on!
  • I feel your pain! I get excited every time I fit into a smaller size pair of jeans. Then I look in the mirror and see the same mid-section blob! I think my eyes just keep adjusting. It's very frustrating. But there's lots of evidence the blob is getting smaller, even though my eyes are playing tricks. Besides smaller jeans: I can see the numbers on the scale without having to bend over; I can finally notice a difference when I "suck it in"; I can bend and move in positions without my tummy getting in the way; from the back I look "normal"... I think there will be a "tipping point" when the proportions of my shape will change, and then "suddenly" I'll actually be able to see it with my eyes!

In the meantime, I just try to keep focused on staying on course, and enjoying the progress that I can notice!

    Hang in there!
  • Honey, I am right there with you. I think what might happen tho is that at some point it CAN'T come off the chest/boobs/hips/thighs anymore so obviously....those are the smaller parts to begin with (less circumference) so as we continue to lose, eventually, it HAS to hit the belly and shrink it.

At least that is my theory and my hope. I have never felt more "apple-y" than I do right now. I don't even understand why the weight loss is seemingly skipping my tummy----but I know the smaller I get, the smaller it will get, even if I can't escape my shape.

Stick with it. I truly believe it will even out at some point.
