Today at work I packed my lunch today like a good little dieter but I'm still hungry!! I should've packed an apple but it's too late for that now and I get off in an hour so I will be able to grab something healthy at home. That being said I've been thinking NON-STOP about going to the vending machine to grab something. If they actually had something healthy I would've been up there a long time ago.
So any advice on keeping your mind off of food when you know you can eat soon but you're hungry? I try and plan ahead and everything but some days I'm just a lot hungrier than others (and today I ate a lot of protein for lunch and breakfast +veggies with normal portion sizes so it's really not from making bad choices or anything!). I put some music on, which helps but it's hard to ignore your stomach when you have a desk job and you work independently on projects.
I was going to suggest the water too. Sometimes that's enough to take the edge off until I can get a proper snack. I have a desk job too and I keep a box of oatmeal packets in my drawer so that if I have a really hungry day I can have one of those whipped up in less than a minute. I've only had to do it once or twice but it really helps and stops the temptation to head to the vending machine.
I second the tea! I made myself some this morning.
Do you have a flight of stairs you could go walk up and then down? Maybe if you get up and move for 5 mins, it will get you re-focused on other things.
Thanks for the ideas! I already drink a ton of water so I'm on the right track at least.
I've tried keeping snacks *just in case* at work. It's not the best idea for me because they tend to disappear! So bringing just enough for the day works better (plus then I'm normally bringing fresh fruit, which is probably better in the long run).
I like the stairs idea. We have TONS of stairs there and I actually have to go up or down 2 floors to get to the bathroom. Normally after a bathroom break I forget about whatever I was thinking about before so that's not a half bad idea! I'll try that next time.
Also, this may be a little too far outside the box, but I went to giantmicrobesand ordered a "petri dish" of mini fat cells. So I have this mini stuffed fat cell with eyes that stares at my from my computer monitor. That little guy with his evil little eyes has had a wonderful effect on my afternoon munchies!
I would think a magazine picture or something like that would also do the trick. You know, something visual that makes you really not want that candy bar from the vending machine.

Edited my last entry to include the link
That website makes me happy, though - I do have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy - so it may not be for everyone.

That's hilarious! Made my day. Oh, and maybe also keeping a picture of me when I was skinny at my desk. That might actually be good motivation in general...
OMG that fat cell idea is hilarious. I love the giant microbes... I have a Helicobacter pylori one.. That was my favorite bacteria back in my first degree.
Tea.. water.. Phoning someone for support is always good. Or coming on here - lol.
