awesome Northern Exposure!

I saw 184 today - but I have to see it two mornings in a row for it to count! This week I am going to concentrate on drinking green tea and starting each morning with a cup of warm lemon water... in addition to everything else!

NorthernExposure 03-20-2011 07:55 PM

Thanks Emme and Stacy! Hope you ladies have a fantastic week!

Emme 03-21-2011 04:16 PM

Happy Monday, everyone. I hope you have a great week full of healthy eating, exercise, and good sleep (oh, and lots of water)! :)

I'm feeling really discouraged today :( I started going to the gym on Thursday, and have gone everyday since then. I weighed myself this morning just to see if I'd lost anything, and to my surprise I've gained a pound. I don't understand. I've been eating between 1200-1400 calories a day (and good calories not just any calories :)) and I've been working out. How did I gain a pound??? :?:

I feel like I'm never going to break past 188lbs. I know that this is a long journey, but I just feel like 135lbs is a dream that will never happen. It is also very rainy where I am so maybe that is contributing to my depressing mood. Has anyone gone through this before?

NorthernExposure 03-21-2011 09:48 PM

Did you JUST start going to the gym? It's very common for people to gain weight when they first start working out. You're working muscles that aren't used to working and your body is retaining water to repair all the little tears, etc. that happen as you build all of that beautiful, lean new muscle!

Do remember to allow a rest day here and there. Your body needs some recovery time. I've found I actually weigh LESS on the scale after a rest day than I do after a big workout day.

Oh, and yes, I hear you on the dreary weather. We're supposed to get a freaking SNOW storm starting tomorrow. Not that this is an uncommon thing in northern Minnesota...but man, I'm just so ready for spring :(

Emme 03-22-2011 09:50 AM

Hipster ~ I'm with Northern as far as the exercise causing your muscles to use water to repair themselves (therefore, you are holding onto water). Don't get discouraged because if you are eating at that calorie amount and working out then there is no way that you gained one pound of fat ~ sure, it might be water, but it is not fat! And the good news is that water eventually goes away. Do you weigh yourself daily? I weigh daily and I keep track of my weight because it helps me to see when I am up and down with my weight throughout the month (because of PMS, TOM, etc.).

Here is a sample of how my weight has fluctuated over the past week so you see that it's not a constant downward trend. Last Wednesday into Thursday I was up 1.6 pounds, but then was down a pound on Friday.

Monday 3/14 = (185.6)
Tuesday 3/15 = (184.2)
Wednesday 3/16 = (183.6)
Thursday 3/17 = (185.2)
Friday 3/18 = (184.2)
Saturday 3/19 = (183.2)
Sunday 3/20 = (183.4)
Monday 3/21 = (183.6)
Tuesday 3/22 = (183.8)

Thank you Emme & Northern! I was pretty down in the dumps yesterday (stupid rain ;)) but I woke up this morning and weighed myself and I'm down to 186.8lbs! I took yesterday off from the gym so I know you were both right about that lb being water weight.

Thank you guys for being positive and helping me realize how silly I was being!!!

thaisccs 03-22-2011 12:30 PM

Today, I'm down to 185 flat... which is great! Maybe I'm back on track (I think I am!) :)

NorthernExposure 03-22-2011 01:03 PM

Congrats Hipster and Thaisccs on your losses! We're going to be outta the 180's before we know it :)

I hope so...my current "can't stand it anymore" number is 184. I keep seeing it pop up after I weigh in at 183, and it's killing me!! LOL!! It won't leave me alone.

NorthernExposure 03-23-2011 11:09 AM

Emme, I have a feeling I may get stuck there too. My last WI (when I had my "whoosh" last week) was 183.7. I highly doubt I'll have those kind of results 2 weeks in a row. I'm hoping for a modest loss or even no gain...I just hope it wasn't a total fluke and I'm UP 2 lbs or something! I guess we'll see!

chubbyhipster 03-23-2011 02:52 PM

Happ Wednesday everyone! I hope everybody is having a great and healthy day :D

NorthernExposure 03-24-2011 09:11 AM

Hey guys, almost the weekend! WI day for me tomorrow, hoping I have good news to report! Hope you're all having a great week :)

novelistabac 03-24-2011 09:30 AM

Hi Everyone!

Congrats on all the losses! We are getting closer to the 170s.

I think I may have broken my plateau....this morning I weighed in at 184.6...this is after hovering 187 for over a month.

Hoping to keep up the downward trend!!

Good luck with your WI tomorrow!! Mine is tomorrow, too, but I am dreading it. My weight has been all over the board this week and it has just gone up every single day this week...quite frustrating.

Saturday (183.2)
Sunday (183.4)
Monday (183.6)
Tuesday (183.8)
Wednesday (184.0)
Thursday (184.6)

What the $h!*!

So, I will begrudgingly get on the scale tomorrow and just hope that it isn't 185, or I'll be chucking it out the window. ;)
