Where do you get your protein? I'm allergic to eggs, so that hinders me some what on an easy source. I'm falling about 30g short, I think that's effecting me negatively.
I don't know what your eating plan is, but have you tried the protein shakes? They have a protein shake at walmart, I think it's an EAS shake, that is only 100 calories, and I think it has about 16 grams of protein. I find them a quick and easy way to get the protein in without adding a lot of calories.
Shakes are a good idea. I know they usually use casein or other milk product in those, which I am also allergic too. I wonder if they make alternatives. Before someone mentions Soy, I'm allergic to that too.
I'm doing just a calorie counting plan, limiting range of 16-1800. though i'm 99% of the time at 1600.
I eat a vegan diet. My protein comes from natural whole foods. Every whole food has some protein in it. Legumes (beans, lentils, etc), veggies (especially green veggies), fruit (bananas are good here), whole grains (quinoa is especially good), nuts/seeds, etc. The RDA for protein is around 55 grams, how much are you getting? I get about 70-80g/day but I've had as high as 100g before.
I eat 5-7 ounces of any of the following for dinner each night: chicken, lean beef, pork tenderloin, turkey, fish (I eat a lot of fish, like salmon, tuna, cod, halibut, whatever), buffalo, or lamb. Sometimes I do have eggs or eggbeaters. Another good choice is meatless stuff like soy burgers or sausages. Or I have low fat cheese or cottage cheese as my protein.
I also eat hard boiled eggs, string cheese, and use some soy or whey protein bars or supplements. I get more than 75g of protein per day.
I've seen protein requirement calculators on the web. I think if you google that, you should be able to find a few and compare what they say to get a good idea what you need.
I can't eat soy either for thyroid. I average about 100 grams of protein a day. I do eat eggs for breakfast. What about turkey sausage instead of eggs? Also I've noticed varying protein content in things like yogurt. One small tub of stoneyfield Greek yogurt is around 15 grams of protein. Another brand of Greek yogurt has only 5 grams for the same serving size, so check labels. Some of those "light" yogurts have almost no protein. I keep jerky on hand for an occassional snack once or twice a week. I found a nitrite free turkey jerky at Whole Foods.
