I am glad to hear this has been changed.

    Who are the new owners?
  • Hey Matt -

I love having you (and the other guys) on here! Not only are your journeys so inspirational, but having another viewpoint is such a great addition to the conversations!

I think regardless of the way the site is described (and I am pleased to see the change), there will always be more women because of our nature. Most of the men I know are reluctant to discuss weight loss openly. Sure, they will talk about going to the gym or lifting, but not about weight loss directly. It seems like weight loss is a feminine thing to them. (I am reflecting the men I know in RL.) I would be very surprised to hear any of my male friends discussing thier feelings about weight loss. It's sad, though, because men have the same feelings and insecurities that women do. Having a place here, to discuss those things away from others that may judge is so exciting. For me, as a woman, but even more so for men who may have an even harder time discussing these things in RL. The irony is that if there were too many men on the site, would it still work or would the societal pressures to not discuss these things kick in?? I don't know. I'm curious, though.

My husband is trying to lose weight, but I doubt you'll see him on this site. He is on sports message boards like crazy, but seems to live through me here. There have been several times when I have discussed posts that the men have made with him. He seems interested and to enjoy having some male specific ideas of what the experience is like. But when he gets on the computer, it's football recruiting sites that he visits.

On a separate but related note - He and I were discussing some of these differences the other day. He's lost about 15lbs - gone from 240 to 225 at 6' tall. He's had a lot of people come up to him and compliment him on his weight loss. I have lost 35lbs and am much shorter (aka a bigger appearance difference) but have had almost no one say a word to me. Society just seems to see weight loss between men and women so differently.

Rambling aside - I'm glad to have the men here and wouldn't want it any other way!! (I'll just keep it in mind before I post those swimsuit before and afters! LOL!)

International Brands, which owns a number of large Internet sites. Most of us are familiar with Fitday, which is an IB site.
  • I never thought about it that way either!! I think men or women if you are working toward a goal of becoming healthier we can all help each other and offer different insight!

Thanks, Meg - for the info.
  • Hey We love our guys! There are not enough of you around here, and we really miss you when you're gone...*cough ~Si~ cough*!

I love that you're here, don't go anywhere!
