So, does breakfast make all the difference in your day?

  • I always have had breakfast but not good choices. lol Now I usually have a cerel bar and a yogurt. Sometimes I throw in some fruits. I like weekends though when I have time to have eggs!!
  • I usually have a bowl of bran flakes, or other high fiber cereal with a banana cut up on top, 2% milk (on the cereal), and an apple with some peanut butter. Plus my coffee with 2% milk, or rarely half and half cream. If I miss out on the apple and peanut butter I notice it for sure.
  • Since I started monitoring my blood glucose, I've found out that almost any carbs for breakfast will spike me (and make me very hungry very soon). Even a cereal like Kashi Go Lean, which has protein and fiber, will spike me.

So I don't do many, if any carbs with breakfast anymore. I reserve them for the later meals, when I'm not as sensitive.
  • Yes breakfast makes a huge difference! I have to have protein in it somewhere...my breakfast this morning was 1/2c eggbeaters & 1/2c spinach omelet then I had some yogurt too.
  • Protein is actually the most satiating nutrient so that makes sense... but I never really linked the two. That's a good tip actually! Cos now that I think back, if I had oatmeal for breakfast I was freaking ravenous after like 2 hours. I'm going to try that
  • For me if I have on eof my Jimmy Dean D-light breakfast sandwiched (turkey sausage, egg white and low cal cheese of an english muffin) I feel great all day (I still eat every 3 hours or so to keep my metabolism working properly). I ate Oatmeal yesterday, I all day long I was starving... that had to be the difference since everything else was the same.
  • agreed. I do protein based breakfasts with little cardbs. i have to go from 830 to around 6 on workdays without eating.
  • I eat cottage cheese with wheat bran, cinnamon, and sweetener for breakfast.

I've never understood people who don't eat breakfast, or have to struggle to remember to eat it. I've never in my life woken up not hungry.
  • Breakfast is very important, I have cream of wheat with a cup of frozen blueberries/blackberries/raspberries and 1/4 cup of oatmeal mixed in.
It's a good thing to eat 3 hours later, a healthy snack will keep your metabolism in high gear.
If you wait too long between meals your body can double-cross you by storing your food as fat instead of fuel.
  • I used to skip breakfast all the time, now a day without it is rare, indeed. I find as long as it is high fiber the protein is slightly less important, but no simple carb-only meals first thing, or it does nasty things to my blood sugar and hunger cues!
  • before i started my weightloss journey, i never ate breakfast--even as a child. never woke up hungry, and could go until 2-3pm before i put something in my mouth.
When i started my proper nutrition plan, i began trying to forcefeed me breakfast, which seemed ridiculous at the time. Now, i wake up hungry, and i love breakfast! the fact that i wake up hungry makes me happy too, shows me my body is waking up for action and it knows there's gonna be a day ahead for which energy is needed!
  • Breakfast is a must for me also. I usually mix it up with carbs, protein and fiber......I have noticed that when I have a good breakfast, it really helps keep me on plan when those little temptations present themselves.
  • Well.. yesterday was definately not a fluke. I got up today and made pretty much the same omelet.. and here I am again 2 1/2 hours out from breakfast and I'm not hungry

I thought about trying to add a slice of whole wheat toast to it, but was too afraid..lol.
  • I need my breakfast otherwise I turn into a real crank.

I remember throughout middle & high school, I'd use my lunch money and buy candy for breakfast. oy vey Never worked out well for me, because I'd crash by 10.

I tend to eat a substantial breakfast, high in protein and/or fiber. It helps me survive to lunch time (which I can eat a light meal and not feel deprived).

I also need my coffee in the morning, but that's an entirely different story!
