Default Sick.. Need food ideas...

Hello all-

I'm hoping you guys can give me some dinner ideas. I have been sick the past few days and have pretty much no appetite. I know I need to eat so I am trying... but even swallowing water hurts like heck. The salad and strawberries I packed for lunch feels more like nails and shards of glass... I'm even cringeing with each sip of tea I'm taking right now.

So, I realize it's going to hurt no matter what I eat, but I am hoping for ideas for dinner... nothing sounds good. Mashed potatoes just sounds gross and starchy... I'm not a big yogurt fan... I even contemplated frozen yogurt or pudding for dinner and that isn't sounding very good either. LOL.

Thanks!

If you truly have no appetite, not eating for a few days isn't going to kill you, but I generally try to get at least some nutrition in. I find for sore throats, cold is generally good...so I will have protein shakes blended up with frozen berries and protein powder to get some good stuff in me. And stay hydrated! I use a mix of half lower-calorie Gatorade and half water, which my doc recommended as the perfect rehydrator when you're sick.

Feel better soon!

Good to know... no, I truly am not hungry... but I also didn't want to lose several pounds while sick and gain it back 2 days later. So I'm TRYING to eat... mostly I've been focusing on water, tea, and those enhanced vitamin waters.

Soft soup. Maybe lentil or split pea. Lotsa protein in those. I always loved scrambled eggs when I was sick. Nice and soft, soemtimes with cheese mixed in.

Get better!

Great ideas... I think I'm going to combine the soup and egg idea and have Egg Drop Soup for dinner (with low-sodium chicken broth base.)

Thanks!!!

I've been sick for the past 4 days, I've been having soup and gatorade, not much else. I figure if my body is telling me not to eat, thats probably what it needs. Just remember to get enough fluids!

Hope you feel better soon, nothing worse than being sick

Curried coconut squash soup. It has a lovely creamy mouthfeel, and lots of betacarotene from the squash. It's not really "low-fat" because of the coconut milk, but if it's the main thing you're eating it shouldn't be too bad.

Saute onions (I add celery and garlic if I have them)
Add a tablespoon or so of your favorite curry powder, cook another minute or so (to cook the raw edge off the spices)
Add a can of coconut milk, some chicken broth, and two packages of frozen squash (or two cans of pumpkin).
Season with salt and pepper.

YUM!

Thanks guys... I appreciate the responses. I opted for egg drop soup last night... I'm planning on soup again for lunch and dinner today.

vitamin c has been my mothers miricle go to when ever we were sick when we were kids ... when im sick i enjoy the taste of oranges the citracy ness tastes good to me ... maybe you can try some orange juice nuked in the microwave to take the chill off of it .. fresh citrus fruits are also good ...

another comfort food i run to when im sick ( i know this sounds weird ) but its tomato soup with a few red beans thrown in some cilantro and those chedder cheese gold fish snacks i throw them in there and wait for them to get just the perfect amount of soggyness so i can swallow them easier ...

if you like indian food maybe you can get takeout at an indian resturaunt order dhal its almost like split pea soup but its nicley spiced ..

chicken noodle soup might be good to .. its not alot of noodles and after all the ingredients simmer it should be easy on your throat to swallow ...

also i use sugar free popcicles to sooth a sore throat

that being said i hope you feel better it really sucks being sick
