  • Today was the day!!!
I opened my mail box and there it was..
my appoval letter from the INS... 3 years in the waiting.
Jim and I met in 1998 and married in 1999.. part of our whole marriage was our immigration issues. It's done. On Tuesday we BACK (wasn't I JUST there!) to Minneapolis to pick up my temp green card. What can I do with this? I CAN GET A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER , I can get a WI driver's licence!.. I can get a job.. I can get credit!!! Whohoooo! I can go home for a visit. (the INS doesn't allow home visits while you are waiting a status change)

With a trip home comes a new goal.. a realistic one!

lose 15 lbs in 11 weeks. We are going home for Halloween (my favourite holiday!!) I think this is really do-able

I just wanted to share this special news with you all.. you all are very special to me. This is a huge event for me and my family...

    Dana
  • Alright, Dana!!

I wish you the very best in your effort to take off 15 lbs. by Halloween -- (by the way, my very favorite holiday, too )

Glad things are coming together for you.

    Crystal

  • alll happy dancers for you, dana!!!!! what a long, nasty haul you've had. and there's really no excuse for it.

so, does this mean that you can join the low carb chicks for the canada chick meet next summer?????
  • Yay Dana! I know how it SUCKS to be away from home for so long! When we lived overseas, I was only able to come home twice in six years.
  • Good news Dana. Glad you will be going home for a visit soon. I love Halloween also.......a great time of year.
  • DANA!!! *Super Hugs!* That is GREAT news!!! Congratulations!! I am so happy for you, I know how long you've waited for this! Whooppee!
  • thank you
thank you all for your support.... we are at my MILs right now and leave for Minneapolis tomorrow.. I can't wait!!!
  • That is soooo great!!!

I can't believe the limitations you have been living with!! Don't be in any hurry to get a job!!!
  • ***CONGRATULATIONS***

Hooray! You must be so, so happy!

GL! on the 15 pounds by Halloween (which is my favorite holiday as well! It's the day dh & I met )
  • Congratulations!!
I know you must be so happy! It's amazing things we take for granted that you probably never will like you SSN, your drivers license, being able to vote, get a job and credit, etc... I KNOW you will make your Halloween goal too. You have a big incentive to do it, so maybe you will actually lose 20 or 25, the sky is the limit!
    Congrats again!
    laura
  • Congrats and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays too.
  • well.. I am back from our trip to the INS.. just be happy (for all you fellow yanks out there) that you don't have to deal with them.
Jim and I waited 5 1/2 hours in line... !!! STANDING!!! NO EATING OR DRINKING ALLOWED! URGH! I gave myself an exercise point for standing for 5 1/2 hours.. I figured I burned more calories then if I sat for that long..LOL

I have my temp green card now.. the real one gets mailed to you.. they said with in 18 months.. but the temp card expires within 12 months (yes, I know stupid).. so if I don't get the permanant card before this one expires we have to line up again....

I am going to the social security office tomorrow.. and then I'm getting myself a job!!

Again, thanks for all the support.

    Dana
  • Dana that is great news!! I certainly would gime a point for exercise you deserved it. did you and Hubby atleast take turns standing in line???

i will join you for that Halloween goal challenge. 15 lbs??

(I will shoot for an even number below the 170 mark that leaves just under 15 for me.)
  • YAY DANA! That is SO great.

I would like to weigh 220 by the week before thanksgiving. My cousin is getting married... and it would be awesome to look good for that
  • Dana thats great! Good luck on the job hunt!

I'd love to join you for your new goal. I want to be under 200 by the week before thanksgiving, I'm in a wedding and don't want to be the fat girl standing next to the lovely bride.
