Hey all!
I was wondering if you all were working towards a goal weight based on the charts or by what you have weighed before?? My ideal is supposed to be 160. ( a high ideal weight for 5'8). I havent weighed this since the 9th grade!! My lowest adult weight was 175. I was wearing 14's then. Sometimes I wonder if that wouldnt be more realistic. If I have never been 160 as an adult wouldnt it be incredibly hard to maintain that weight?? Even if 175 isnt considered a healthy weight for my height, I wonder if that wouldnt be a better goal for me. Just curious if you had any thoughts on this yourself!!

I got 165 off of a BMI chart (put in what my BMI should be, then my height, nd it gave me an ideal weight). I wish I could remember which site I got that from. When I went to the doctor, he also confirmed that number would be good for me - he said he'd be thrilled if I got into the 170's.
Hey Jen,
I responded on the other thread too, but I thought I would put it on this one also. You can find out both your BMI and ideal weight (which is based on BMI) at www.weightwatchers.com On the bottom of their homepage it has the icons to click on to figure out your stats.
My goal weight is 135 (still in the acceptable range for my body build). I look back at a 5th grade softball pic and the weight on teh back was 132. I've been 5'6" since 4th grade. I want to just see 135 and actually maintain 140.
Jen--> There are several charts out there that have "ideal weights." it takes into consideration your height, sex, and body build-small, medium, or large. But for you personally, you need to set a realistic goal that you know you can achieve. For instance if you are 5'9" and say you want to weigh 120, realistically that's probably not going to happen unless you have super small bones and starve yourself. So for your goal weight, you need to find something to strive for. I see on your tagline that you are currently around 250, so a goal for now could be 225. Once you reach that goal, set a new one for 200, then 175, etc. until you find a weight that you are comfortable with.
I just decided to revise my weight goal last night, so I'm finding it fascinating that this topic came up today!
According to the "Charts" I should weigh between 131 and 158 lbs.
I just found out last night, that my sister, who is about 2" taller than me, but also has about half of my build weighs a little more than the maximum of my "appropriate" weight range, which confirmed for me that If I weighed 157 lbs, I would look positively anorexic!!
So, I revised my goal to 177 lbs. I'll see how I look when I get down there, and maybe lose a little more, but I think that is a much healthier place to be!!!
I remember years ago, I went to Nutri-systems and the woman there told me that my ideal weight should be 125 for 5'6". Yeah maybe by "the chart", but I looked at her like she was off her nut! I told her that I'd have to be dead a buried a good year if I were to ever weight that much! I have BIG bones. So she decided to measure my wrist. I believe it was 7" and she agreed that 125 was not ideal for me.
Back in high school I weighed 160, I think. After having all my kids, they done sucked out all my mojo! I can't even remember what I wore yesterday, let alone how much I weighed almost 2 decades ago So anyway, I'm not sure if I weighed 160 or 140. So I figure, I'd be happy at 167, if It's possible to lose more, than that would cool, but if not, I'm not going to sweat it! Life's to short, to sweat the small stuff.....
My tentative goal weight is 160-ish. But, it has litterally been so long since I've weighed that or anything near that, I have no idea how 160-ish will "look" on me. According to the charts, I should weigh between 139 pounds (minimum) and 167 (maximum). Honestly, I think 167 will be a little too thin for my body as I just don't have small bones. Plus, about 4 years ago, I had lost some weight & weighed about 190-195 & was in a size 14, so I think another 40 pounds gone on top of that would be too skinny. But, we'll see when I get closer to it. My big goal is to see the number 165 on my scale, but I would be happy to maintain between 170-172 pounds. Right now, my goal is to get out of the 200's (only 62 pounds to go now vs. 113.3 pounds to go from my start weight!)
I think according to various charts I have looked at from a variety of different sources that with my height of 5'3", 125 lbs is an appropriate weight. I can't even remember when I actually ever weight that, probably at least 20 years. Still I am confident that I can get down to that weight. If I happen to get down to 130-140 and I look good I'll see then.
My goal weight used to be 135. Just a number I had in my head. I recently changed it to 145. That's the top of my weight range. I would so ROCK at 145!!!
Dana - Once you hit your 10% (which you have already, right?), you're supposed to meet with your leader to set a goal weight. Often, though, leaders will tell you to wait until you're much closer to your Weight Watchers "maximum" weight to set your goal.
I am 5'6", so my WW goal is between 124 (double ha ha!) and 148. Right now, my goal is 140, but I think I could maintain 136-138. The last time I did WW - at age 20 - I made my goal of 132. However, given the fact that I'm 15 years older, I don't think that would be a very realistic goal.
Once you hit WW "lifetime," you can be only 2 lbs. over your goal weight before you have to start paying again. However, you can go as far under your goal as you want.
If you feel that your body type is such that the WW "high" weight for your height would be unreasonably thin or hard to maintain, you can shift your goal to be out of their range if you bring a letter from your doctor.
Well, according to the insurance charts at my place of employment, at 5'2", I am supposed to be somewhere within 106 - 121 lbs. Like this will ever happen again!!!!
I was about 110 lbs. when I was in high school -- and I looked good and felt good -- but at that time, I hadn't had a serious weight problem, I was young and active - just a regular 70's teen.
I can say I was actually most comfortable at 140 lbs. I felt great , I think I looked great and I was happy .
All that being said, I think, realistically, I have to take this in a couple "goals". First, if I can see less that 200, I will be ecstatic . Once I reach that "goal", I pretty much think that I would like for my "ideal goal" to be, once again. 140 lbs. It just felt the most "right" for me.
I think that goals are as much personal as they are medical. My medical goal weight should be in the range of 135-165. I was at 150 once and could have still lost about 10 or so more lbs to look great. I am 5'9" tall and big boned. Right now I would be happy to be 185lbs and then go from there.
i am told to be in a range of 110 to 135.... NEVER the 135 might
but my goal is to fit into a size 8 - 10 no exact weight. but i figure range about 145 ish so i am using the scale to watch that i am progressing but .....
