Light wheat bun

Occasionally I like to buy Merita Lite Wheat Hamburger Buns to freeze for those times when I want a hamburger or a hot ham and cheese sandwich. I went months without buying them but started looking for a new package in the middle of June. Well, I can't find them anywhere and I want some!

Does anyone know if they quit making them? Can anyone recommend another light wheat bun? I have tried using half of a regular bun but it was just not satisfying. I used to love white bread but now it just seems like a bit of fluff that has a high calorie count.

Thanks!

hmmm I'm not sure. Our grocery store carries a light wheat bread (really it's just sliced quite a bit thinner than their regular wheat), and I know they have wheat buns but I have never looked to see if they have a light wheat bun.. will have to look! I usually just use my bread.. which I keep in the freezer since I'm the only one who eats this kind and I toast it to thaw it.. it makes it not bad for on a burger on occasion.

I LOVE arnold's sandwich thins. 100 cals and wheat or multi grain.
yummay.

I also love Arnold 100% whole wheat thins for burgers or sandwiches. And they freeze well too.

Sarah Lee makes Heart Healty Wheat Buns. I buy them for when I make my Faux Big Macs. Definitely worth an extra 15 mins on the treadmill! lol

I agree that the Arnold's sandwich thins are fantastic. I keep them in the freezer and just pull out what I need. They toast, broil, and microwave beautifully.

I am going to have to try all these. I hope they are available in my area. Thanks!

Safeway used to make very delicious buns, 100 calories a pop, loved it! I can NOT find them anywhere, and also can't find any buns for less than 160, grrr! So I can definitely feel your pain, hope you find something that works!

Our walmart carries the merita light wheat buns and hot dog buns. But a lot of the time they are out of them.

In regards to the Arnold Thins, I checked into those several months back and they were not carried in our region.

However, they are now available through Orowheat in my area and they are quite yummy. Almost pita-ish and very good with hummus. So check for both brand names if interested.

I went to Walmart today. They still did not have the Merida light buns so I got Arnold 100% whole wheat thins. I had a sandwich for lunch and it was really good. I will try with a burger sometime this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, I think these are great. They're sold under the Orowheat brand out here in the wild West. I bought a huge pack of them at Costco over the weekend and put a bunch in the freezer.

I wanted to update this thread just in case someone else is looking for light wheat buns. I tried the Arnold Thins and they were really good. I like them for sandwiches but they just didn't satisfy my cravings for a hamburger. I found that Kroger brand has a light wheat bun. I tried it last night and had my first real hamburger in months. It was so good. I will freeze the rest of the buns so I am set for a long time.

I wish our grocery store that has it's own brand of light wheat bread would make that recipe into buns as well... sigh.

I'm glad you found some to work for you! I don't care for the Arnold Thins as buns either, but they are ok as bread.

What about thintini's? They are low in calories and pretty yummy :)
