Another TOM ? - Has your TOM been out of wack since losing weight?
Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced changes with their TOM since losing weight?
I've been on Mirena for about 2 years, no problems, regular TOM, on schedule, kinda short 3-4 days and light.
I started my WL journey in Sept and I skipped my TOM in Nov. I had my TOM in Dec 1-4 (very light) and then again Dec 25-29 (also light). Now I've had some spotting in the past two days.
I'm not stressing about it to much, if I had pain or heavy bleeding I would have called my doc.
Guess I'm just curious if you all have experienced some changes with your TOM too.
I'm not on anything. Mine got lighter and less crampy (but not light or painless ). I'm not sure how much length of the whole cycle, or the regularity of it, might have changed, as I never wrote it down before. Now, it varies from usually from 25-28 days. I did have a teeny bit of spotting on occasion, but nothing that persisted or really repeated.
I have lost a gained over the years and still I'm like clockwork. Nothing throws my cycle off, its ruthless! I have NEVER been late, even when I was 13!! Sometimes I wish it would disappear for a month!
Mine has gone crazy! Heavy two or three times a month for 2-3 days then spotting. Then sometimes it skips a month. It is starting to drive me crazy. The doctor told me not to worry, that my body will adjust over time. In the meantime though....arg!!!!
YES, this can happen to some people, it seems to be more common with women who have changed their fat intake drastically. It generally levels out in 2-4 months.
I did some research on this because it is very common with people who take Alli. And since Alli ONLY works in your digestive system that did not make sence to me. But fat intake affects your hormones, but it is nothing to worry about. LIke you said it is not accompanied with heavy bleeding or pain. If you have either of those, or fever, you should see a doctor immediatly.

Very interesting...thanks Redflame. This could explain things since I stopped eating fast food back in Sept. (not one bite since gonna try to hold out for 1yr). Before I ate fast food at least 5 days a week sometimes twice a day. Currently I try to stick to 40g of fat per day.

I started to take alli this week. I was supposed to start my period two days ago. Is that why my period hasn't came? I've gotten slightly worried. Usually my period is a day early! Of course, the last time I took Alli, I had been on a fat reduced diet for a month before I took them, I think. I never noticed that problem then.
Sort of...after getting to where it was like clockwork, literally to the HOUR, for a year or more, it's started coming a day earlier and is much, much lighter than it ever has been. I'm also having, um...intimacy problems that began once I started losing real weight. I'm going to the doctor soon, and hope to talk to him about those problems and see if new BC is right. I started Lo-Ovral when I was 21, and switched to Ovral after weight gain in 2007. Maybe that's the problem...
Yes. Mine has been a little out of whack since I really changed my lifestyle. The first month it came a week early. Then I skipped a month, then one month I had it twice. Always fairly short and light. I'm not on any BC or any weight loss meds. My personal trainer explained that with all the nutrition and exercise changes that our bodies aren't always sure how to react. Hormonal balances are changing, our bodies are working harder than they were used to, etc. I'm still not quite back to normal after 5 months of this, but I'm also not worried about it.
40 grams of fat a day is a great goal, and your hormones will get used to it soon
Daimere; Even where you used to be on low fat before Alli, now you are having a percentage of those low fat grams blocked from your digestive system---so it is still a change. If you read message boards on the Alli site you will see that this is very common, especially the frst 2 months of being on it.
For me alli slowed them down a little---Very little bit, but I was still every 27 days (my normal pattern) I prayed that it would stop them all together, but no such luck!
Sometimes we think we are on a "diet" that will only effect our weight. But our bodies are so wonderfully created that everything is tied together. Our food intake effects our hormones, our brain processes, our joints......the whole works, and vice versa! Pretty amazing

I never thought it would change my period. Crazy! At least, knowing this, I don't have to get a bit worried, like I was getting.
