Default for Sandi-and other moms who've been through this...

Hi,

Sandi- How is Jacob doing? I know just how you feel...last Thursday night my son Matthew woke up at 1:30 am having trouble breathing. My husband works nights, so it was just me here and very scary. I threw on sweatpants, strapped matthew in the car seat and drove to the hospital. Luckily the hospital is five minutes down the road.

It turned out to be croup and an ear infection. After four hours treatment, Matthew was doing much better, and we were able to go home. He had croup last October, and it was much worse that time-Matthew had to stay in the hospital for a whole day in an oxygen tent. That time I was sick with a virus and wasn't able to even be there with him, cause I'd make him more sick. It was ****.

This time he didn't have the croup barking cough-he was wheezing and acting like he couldnt' breathe. I figured it was better to get straight to the hospital instead of waiting for an ambulance since the hospital was so close.

I hope Jacob and you are doing much better.

Be kind to yourself! You've been through a bad week, and it's comforting to turn to food...and hard not to turn to food. I always end up baking brownies or something after stressful things. It's just a bad habit I cannot break no matter how hard I try.

Take care and hugs,
Sherry

Sherry - Thank you!! {{{BIG HUG!!!}}}

I so appreciate your post. It is soooo scary when they get sick. He is doing 100% better. He had his last treatment last night and he seems fine today, so I am crossing my fingers!! His ear infection wasn't getting any better, then I realized that last time he was on Amoxacillin (sp?) it didn't help, so I called the doctor and she called in a different antiobiotic, so hopefully that will help.

So is Matthew feeling better? I have heard that croup can be pretty bad. I can only imagine how you felt being alone. How old is Matthew?

I really did turn to food this week, but I stayed with it LONG after the situation was over. It's so easy to be off program. Monday I am planning to be back on!
