Default Calories Question

I am doing 1800 calories per day as of right now.

I usually have around 800-100 calories left to have a big supper, which is what I like. Is this ok for me to have my largest calorie meal at dinnertime? It is what works for me, so is that good?

It's probably a good thing for you to do, since you tend to binge at night and on the weekends.....

If that's what's working for you I don't see it as a problem. Especially if it helps you avoid constant after dinner snacking.

It's all about finding what works for YOU. There's nothing wrong with it, at all, weight loss wise. If this is what you think you need to do, then go for it. You can always change it up if you see it's not working for you.

The only downside to having a large meal at night, is if you go to sleep shortly after your meal. You could wind up with indigestion.

Hey Mug,
I agree with everyone else.. If it works for you , then stick with it. I really think this weight loss, is about finding the things that work for you , and when they don't anymore, try something new.

Yup! I think it's PERFECTLY OK. I think one of the biggest things we need to realize is that we all need to find what works best for us.

If it ain't broke - don't fix it!!

More and more they're finding that it's the total calories, not "when" you eat, that makes the difference. Granted, they've found people more likely to stick to a low-calorie regimine if they eat small, regular meals rather than three big ones. Personally, I usually have 800-1000 left for evening, too, but I use 100-200 of it in an after-work snack so I don't kill someone due to Hungry Beast Before Dinner syndrome. It depends on what I'm having for dinner. Sometimes I wait and have it all at once.

So I'd say that so long as you are keeping within your calorie goal, you should continue with it. If you begin to stall at that total calorie level, you might look at cutting back the evening eating and see if that helps. But for now, it doesn't seem to be a problem for you.

I wouldn't worry.

I agree, if it works then great. I do wonder a bit whether the fact that you've had some problems with binging in the evenings is a result of not enough calories all day long. Saving calories for the evening to avoid eating too much because you didn't eat much all day seems a bit like a cat chasing it's own tail.

But I'm all about making changes that work for your individual style so if you like it then go with it.

I'm with everyone else. I'm a night eater as well. I've tried not eating after 7:00 - YUCK! I was not happy. I didn't lose any faster than if I saved my calories and ate later. If it works for you do it! I know it works for me.

If it works for you, fabulous! If you find you're having trouble sticking to plan despite having that 800-1000 calories to play with at night, you might consider trying to balance your eating out more during the day, but as long as you are on-target, stick with it!

I think this works well for stress and comfort eaters because by the end of the day the stresses of life have piled up on us!! I am trying very hard to break my stress/comfort/boredom eating patterns and also trying to seriously cut down on the volume of food that I need to eat to feel satisfied so this isn't the route that I want to go. I am so glad that you found the right rhythm for you!
