  • Tastes like chicken

We have about the same amount of weight to lose it looks like. I have lost 9.5 lbs. since September 1st. I understand your frustration. It is hard to give up what you think is tasty yet "unhealthy" and eat foods that are "tasteless" and are "healthy".

You have hit one "secret" when you said that getting the unhealthy stuff out of the house is the first step. It is. Just don't bring it back into the house ever again.

That said: if you are asking for a shopping list, I think the best thing to do is list the things you like that are healthy. I am sure that there are some things that you do like: how about a red crunchy apple? Dip it in some caramel sauce (2 TB.) and you can satisfy your sweet tooth that way. You get the idea.

I think everyone has their own preferences so this will take some initial effort on your part to find healthier alternatives to the favorites you eat. I have never tried tofu but I hear it tastes just like chicken.

    Good luck

WOW! I have to say it really doesn't but it is really good!
  • You know, one thing that helped me when I was switching to "tasteless healthy food" was rediscovering the spice rack. When you eat fatty unhealthy snacks you pretty much get used to the tastes of salt, sugar, and fat. When you really think about it, those are not good flavors. Spin that spice rack and discover basil, cilantro, saffron, cardamom. I couldn't believe what I was missing. I think I was way more "cheated" BEFORE I started healthy eating!
  • Marseille makes a great point. Dust off that spice rack and get to work with those! I even planted an herb garden this year, there's nothing like a little fresh basil to perk up a salad. Give your palate a couple of weeks to detox, after eating junk for so long your tastebuds will need to readjust. Once they do though, there's nothing like a sweet, crispy apple or freshly steamed veggies!
  • I use spices on everything. I don't reat fatty snacks really, I fry or drench everything in grease. Of course I didn't realize this until I started paying attention to what I was cooking. Beh

I am southern cook. Marinate in butter, fry in grease, cover in cream. Heh
