Feeling happy and green!

  • Hmm, my typical saturday ritual is to make sure I'm out of bed early enough to get to McDs while breakfast is still being served.

    Not today!

I got up early and took care of the kitties (whole other story). You can see from my ticker that the scale and I are definitely friends today. Then I left the house and went to McDs and only got a SMALL iced tea (so badly addicted to caffeine and that's what I'm down to now is a small iced tea in the morning, no sugar). Then I hit the farmer's market, which is on Saturday mornings here and always fun. I browsed, drooled over the fresh baked bread and scones but ended up with sweet onions, green beans, and peaches. All organic and grown within 15 miles of where I bought them.

I recently discovered that there is a health foods market about a half hour drive from me. It's a cross between a health food store, farm stand, and Amish market. The property next door is owned by a local nursery/flower supplier. When I got to the market, I thought I'd take a peek at the flowers and wow, what a surprise. I've seen plenty of nurseries with their perfect rows of perfect flowers and clean, scrubbed floors and tidiness that looks so artificial. This place is completely the opposite. The flowers are gorgeous but it's all so wild. Where plants have fallen or seeds landed under the tables or along the borders, they have been allowed to grow wild. There was, oh heaven forbid!, mud! And birds and insects, all in this lush, flower-filled world. I bet I wandered around for a half hour, just looking at the flowers and enjoying being among them. So peaceful and lovely.
I finally left the flowers and went into the market where I found fantastic quality and prices on organic veggies, grass-fed/free range meats (including bison), and other all natural, healthy food choices.
And since I hadn't spent the money on a McDonald's breakfast one day this week, I bought a bouquet of fresh flowers- sunflowers, mums, and carnations- for my house. A much nicer alternative, IMO.

And I drove home thinking, "wow, I got some great stuff and I can't wait to eat it! This is going to be a good week." And I didn't buy any sugar, corn, wheat, or dairy.

So, having a good day, except that I'm coming down with a cold

How is everyone else's weekend progressing?
  • congrats on all the great work!!! and Great choices!!
I love the farmer's market, didn't go this week, instead going by a coworker of my husbands , he has a farm, and I am going to get some veggies. Cheryl
