TOM and weight loss

  • Hi all, I am new here and wasnt quite sure where to post this question.

When you guys are on your TOM are you still losing weight? Or, does it halt weight loss? I'm bummed because I really thought I was going to lose another lb or two by now but havent. Anyhoo, just wondering if TOM could be the culprit.

    Thanks so much
  • TOM affects me, but usually only for a few days, then it goes back to normal. I've heard some say that it doesn't affect them at all, but I know it does for me because I can hardly get my rings on and off. I know there is a lot of water retention!!
  • I have found that TOM has zero affect on my weightloss. But I do know there are plenty of women who say they see anywhere from a lb to as much as a 5 lb gain. Do keep in mind though, IF it's truly just from TOM, and not the fact that you are overeating, that it is not FAT that you have gained, but water.
  • TOM for me ends up in water gain so the scale generally doesn't move but I do find I am still losing weight because after TOM, the scale goes down. Although I do sometimes get the munchies during TOM and may eat a bit too much so that may halt my progress.
  • Thats for the responses ladies.

I am on day 7 of the Fat Smash Detox and have been religiously following it (first time in my life I have not cheated on a diet - amazing).

I have been excersing everyday. Yesterday, after a blistering workout (2 hours) I went with hubby and played 9 holes of golf.

I guess thats why I was bummed this morning when I still hadnt budged weight wise. I do feel bloated right now... ugh.
  • TOM always causes water gain for me. EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!
  • Yup, it's not unusual for me to have a five pound gain, but I seem to lose those five pounds as well as another few right after, even if I indulge and give into the cravings a bit (or a lot). Hang in there, I know how frustrating it is!

    This is me exactly.
  • It doesn't seem to affect me either. I have had losses every week since I started this journey. I can tell a difference in my eating though, and plan for those days (I seem to be hungier than normal) I just pack in more vegetables those days.
  • I see a gain on the first and second days of my cycle. It's usually gone by the end (day 7).
  • TOM usually means a small gain or just a temporary stall in weight loss for me.
  • I stall twice a month - TOM and when I'm ovulating (does anyone else stall during ovulation?) The scale might go up slightly...but generally it's a stall in the loss. Frustrating, I know, but hang in there...you'll see that drop!
  • Tricia, I also stall when I'm ovulating, thought I was the only one!
  • Oh yeah, its normal for *most* woman to gain.

Its my TOM and I am up 6lbs.
Sigh......I just keep reminding myself it will be off next week
