Thanks and Welcome Kady, Dena, Tryinhard and Muffin Mich. We love the new blood.
OK here's an oldie but goodie topic for this week...
Nutrition.
I've been off and on and off the nutrition wagon for the past few weeks - trying to rev up again and then settling back - to snacking on comfort food. What works for you in steering yourself back to eating nutritionally? What challenges are coming up for the rest of this we re eating right?
Since Journaling is a trial for me... I'm gonna see if I can focus on just tracking my eating habits for this week - especially regarding eating nutritionally.
Any other ideas?
I've also got to commit to going to a WW meeting and weighing in. Maybe tomorrow.
sound great patch! I'm in. I am trying for a multivitamin every day and at least five fruits and veg.
However, my diet is still pretty starch laden and not very balanced. I have my moments too.
I weigh in tomorrow since I'll be out of town on Friday. I'm not sure where I stand, but I am proud to say I have many gold stars on my calendar for activity.
Good topic Patch. This is an area that I really need to work on, especially after all that unbalanced Christmas eating. One thing I did a few days ago was to make a big pot of hearty and nutritious soup. I have several evening commitments this week and I thought it would be good to have something quick and healthy ready for when I get home from work.
Lala: I reach too often for starch too - bread, rice, pasta, potatoes - all very comforting, especially when it's freezing cold outside like today.
I haven't weighed myself yet this week. I need to get to our local WW centre for an official January weigh-in, then get back to a weekly schedule. That's the only way I'm going to achieve this goal.
Isn't it great to have some new folks? Welcome and congrats to kady, dena, tryinhard and muffin mitch. Together, we'll get there - hopefully in time for bathing suit weather.
My motivation to eat nutritionally was that I used to take iron supplements, so my goal was to get enough iron to stop taking the pills (I hate pills, I always forget them). Well I managed, but I no longer monitor the iron in my diet. I try to eat iron rich foods, but I noticed that my lunch today isn't strong on iron.
I find that the more time I have to spend in the kitchen, the more I'm likely to eat well. I think that's pretty normal, if I don't pack a lunch, I'm not likely to buy a lunch that's as nutritionally sound.
Last night I packed a good lunch for today, but it lacks protein:
- small yogurt - 2 pts
- salad (iceberg, radicchio, cucumbers) - 0 pts
- salad dressing - 1 pts
- veggies and dip - 1 pts
- rice and curry (no chicken in the curry sauce, there was none leftover after my chicken curry meal last week) - no idea, 4 for rice, unknown for the sauce
- orange - 1 to 2 pts
At least it helps meet my veggie goal. Here's how I did last week on my goals:
Day Water Fruit/Veggies Exercise
Thurs 32 oz 2 15 mins walk, floor exercise, abs&legs
Fri 40 oz 3 10 mins walk
Sat 36 oz 3 20 mins walk
Sun 48 oz 3 none
Mon 34 oz 3 10 mins walk, 1 hour volleyball
Tues 40 oz 5 10 mins walk
I know the water isn't where it should, but it's better than it was before the challenge. My veggies are also better than they were before the challenge, and yesterday, I managed to get my 5 fruits/veggies in. As for the exercise, I've been sidetracked this week, injured dog, sick sister, very, very cold weather (-22C (-7F) when I woke up this morning), but I know those are just excuses.
This week, I'm going to concentrate again on water and veggies, but I'm going to wait until the dog recuperates from his injuries before recommitting to the exercise. He needs to lose weight, so we need to be exercising together.

My week is Wed. to Wed. because of my WI. I haven't been going to meetings, but I plan to start next week. I need to do that and also keep up my journal. I've been posting it this week, which has helped. I have to do it to post it. My challenge has balancing my hypoglycemia with WW and lately WW, and my weight loss efforts in general, have lost. My weight has been creeping up, but at least my HG symptoms have lessened some.
I posted my first week's points on the week 1 post.
Muffin- I love your lunch. I could be happy eating all that food.
Yup, starch is my best friend at this moment. Must try and find a new best friend pronto.
I should calculate first week points too. Thanks Myra.
I'm weighing in today, don't expect miracles, but a loss would be nice. I am glad to say that I return on Monday, which gives me four days to recover from American Airlines high salt airline food products and general travel bloat.
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. You are all doing so well!
Coming to this thread and journaling have gotten me back on track. Plus I've been going to the gym this week and that has helped me, too. Just seeing everyone else working out gives me motivation.
So far my points this week have been:
Mon -23 pts. -Exercise-extra 4 pts.
Tues.-22.5 pts. Exercise- extra 4 pts
Wed.-23.5 pts. Haven't done it yet.
I need those extra exercise pts. in case we go out on the weekend. That's when things get hairy for me and I need all the help I can get.
Oh, by the way, I got on the scale and am down 2 lbs. I'm now 144; goal - 132. Yay.
Good morning everyone! Welcome to our thread MuffinMich, Dena, Kady, and Tryinhard!
I, like Myra, have my week end on Wednesdays which is my meeting day.
Patch: Great topics!
Nutrition: What can I say here except that I'm struggling to eat better and more balanced? I've been fighting the eating without thinking. I do find, though, that when I eat balanced meals that I feel better and I'm not as apt to snack on things. This week I'm going to focus on making sure I get enough protein with my meals and to feel satisfied. I know once I get myself straightened around I'll feel so much better. On an up note, my journaling is back on track and I'm recording things as I eat them rather than waiting until later. I want to work on getting more movement in as well. I've been trying to get out and walk on my lunch hour but the weather hasn't been the best.
I don't have any major challenges other than an event on Sunday which is called "The Souper Bowl" that I'll be attending. Various restaurants will have small tastes of their soups. I'm working at WW on Saturday & Sunday morning so that'll help keep me motivated.
I finally weighed myself this morning and was really surprised to see I have maintained. That means fairly steady at 146 and still 8 lbs. from personal goal. I'm thankful for that given my inactivity and overeating since Christmas. I'll take that as my starting weight for challenge purposes and probably weigh-in officially at WW next Friday.
I only have points for the past three days, so I won't bother posting them. They're kinda frightening anyway. I'm opting for a fresh start.
I've been going over my electronic journal and I see I've really fallen down in the veggie department lately. No problem with fruit or milk servings, but really sparse on the good, low-point stuff that used to make up a large part of my diet. Guess I know what I need to concentrate on.
I got a really nifty gift from DH for Christmas - a gift certificate for a food service where you pick the meals you want from their menus, and they shop for the food, and either cook and deliver or cook at your home (and clean-up afterwards). There was good variety - low calorie/low fat, etc. but I must admit I didn't choose all of the meals from that category. Too good an opportunity to pass up. Really looking forward to delivery day!!
I weighed in this morning and I'm up 0.5 lbs. That's ok with me, I'm still under goal. I did drink more water and eat more veggies, so that's the important part. Once I add more exercise, I'll be all set!
Good morning! Thanks for the warm welcome!
Great topic! When I am working on nutrition, I concentrate on "eating cleanly." I like to eat my fruits and vegs very plainly and my grains without a whole lot of "stuff" on top. This also helps with the little BLT's of less healthy things, too! It's just another way to think about the whole idea of eating well, but for some reason, it's something that works for me!
Do any of you have a meal during the week where you eat whatever you want? That's my Friday night. I never go REALLY overboard, but I do eat bread or have a glass or two of wine.
Hope you all have a good day!
I weighed in yesterday at the same weight, considering the steady level of exercise, drinking water and pretty honest journalling, I can say--- TIME TO MOVE THOSE POINTS DOWN!
Hi all! I used to come here a lot about 2 years ago when I first became a Lifetime Member. I recognize a few names, but unfortunately I can't remember what mine used to be! (Post-pregnancy brain!)
I thought this 12 week challenge might be a good way to get to know you all again...if you will accept me! I have a ways to go to get back to goal, I gained more than I would have liked with the recent birth of my first child!
I have been attending meetings again since Nov, and once again program is working well! (I lost about 65lbs 2.5 yrs ago.)
WRT nutrition, I am a big time carb craver and evening muncher. I am able to lose weight in spite of these habits, but plan to change them anyway!
Since you are all on week 2 of the challenge, I will go back to where I was at my weigh in at that time:
Starting weight for challenge- 180.4
Goal weight for end of 12 wks- 162
I will acheive this by using the tools I have learned at WW, and by experimenting with some creative forms of exercise!
Bad week for me up to date. Hockey game on Thursday night in a box. Lots of delicious foods. Saturday night Gala. Sunday night supper would not have been bad if it wasn't for the sugar pie for dessert. I only had a taste.
I was good at 2/3 of the events. The hockey game was the worse. I kept going back for more! I did drink only water, though.
Not getting better on the veggie/water front. Very stressful time my family is in right now, so although I've not been overeating (that in itself is a victory), I haven't been very good with water and veggies, especially on weekends. And the exercise has been difficult too for the same reasons.
But it's monday and I'm ready to start clean. Water, here I come.
