Default How Long Off Work After GB

Hi! I'm planning to have GB surgery in early August. About how long were you off from work after your surgery? I am a teacher and am hoping to be able to return to work at the beginning of the school year, about three weeks later. Is this unrealistic? Thanks in advance.

the REAL Q is how you'll be feeling. and what your doc says. mine wanted me off for 6 weeks - but i'd been very ill going into the surgery.

some folks with a desk job go back to work in a week or two. others need a little longer.

I'm 22 and was in excellent health (other than my weight) at the time of my surgery. I tried going back to class two weeks after surgery and it completely kicked my ***. I was able to go to my desk job after three, but it was tough. Unless you're really young and/or teach older (like high school) students, you should probably plan on 3-6 weeks before you can stay a whole day.

I had my surgery at age 44, and was in hospital overnight. 3 workdays off, then the weekend so basically 5 days. But I program phone systems, no physical labor involved.

Edit - Oops, I interpreted "GB" to be Gall Bladder surgery, after posting realized you were looking for "Gastric Bypass". No wonder my timing didn't match the other answers!
