I'm wearing a blue jean skirt today, since the weather is finally warm, and I guess I'd forgotten about the dreaded thigh rash! I'm so uncomfortable, and I'm sure my co-workers are wondering what's up with the waddle walk! I've heard that there is no such thing as spot reduction excercises, is this true? I love to wear skirts - hate nylons - any suggestions that can help?!
baby powder and boyshorts... or even some short bicycle shorts. I've always had to do this, even at a size 5.. make sure you get the baby powder that is NOT scented though!! You'll make it the entire summer with no rash's
I used to always carry one of the little travel sizes of baby powder around.
I remember a terrible experience in Vancouver, BC. It was a warm day and I was wearing a blue/white summery dress. My boyfriend and I were trying to find a particular restaurant. We walked around quite a bit, got there and they only took cash. We had to leave and walk around some more to try to find an ATM. My legs were so raw and painful, every step was agony and I felt like the biggest wuss/baby.
I didn't spot reduce, I just lost weight all over and this is blessedly not an issue for me anymore.
I would definately suggest the shorts, like spandex or some material like that. Or, you could cut the bottoms off of pantyhose, so they only come down above your knees. Baby powder, definately.
I know exactly what you're going through...except my rash was 10 X worse than the normal thigh rash. I had something called Hydradenitis Supurativa and when my thighs rubbed together or if it was hot out, I would get giant sized blood and pus filled blisters that looked almost like boils. Most painful things EVER. I used to have to wrap gauze around my thighs. It was awful and embarrassing.
No, spot reducing doesn't work, all-over weight loss does.
Lotion for me too. Or a little vaseline. It helps reduce the friction. I haven't had this problem lately, now that I think about it.... I hope it never returns!
I feel your pain. I always used bloomers (The shorts version of regular slips) I found that bicycle shorts would always ride up and drive me crazy. It feels really strange to be able to wear skirts without them now.
I remember it well, every summer holiday from when I was about 13 I'd end up waddling around with my legs as far apart as I could get them. My favourite tactic was cycling shorts, but there are some great ideas on this thread.
I have the rubbing thigh problem, too. Haven't had much success with any lotions or powders, and boy shorts creep up between my thighs. Don't like the sound that heavier spandex, like bike shorts, makes when the thighs rub together. So I very rarely wear skirts or dresses.
And it's true you cannot spot reduce. Reducing your overal bodyfat via clean eating and exercise will help, but some of us are genetically designed that our thighs rub together.
There' some sort of lotion on the market that is specifically to prevent chafing in sensitive areas. It is made by a big company, but can't remember who. I want to say it's DR Scholls or Nivea or something like that.
