Default Bra-size unchanged!

Its a wonder why my bra-size isn't changing despite the weight loss. I haven't lost a whole lot, but about 32 lbs which is pretty good, I am down by 1 dress size (size 18 - 16) and all my previous XL (size 16) clothes are fitting me now. But my bra size alone which used to be much smaller when I was size 16 earlier, hasn't gone down at all due to which all the XL shirts seem to be little tight in the chest area. When will the bra size decrease?

Have you had yourself measured/fitted, or are you going by fit?

When I went down from a 52DD to a 46DD I thought my 52DD bras were "just a little loose." I was going to just buy one size smaller until hubby convinced me to get fitted by the saleswoman. I was astonished to have gone down 3 sizes.

When I went bra-shopping again, I was measured again. I expected to have stayed the same size as I'd not lost any more weight, but I had gone down to 44 DD.

Breasts are almost entirely fatty tissue so until the body decides to get rid of fat in that spot, they're not gonna change. And there's a theory that you lose fat in reverse order of how you gained it, so if the boobies were first they're gonna be last.

My weird thing is that my breasts feel lighter but aren't any smaller. I don't even understand that.

I agree with kaplods, though. A bra fitting is a good idea. Most women are wearing the wrong size bra.

And most bra fitters don't know what they're doing.

I've lost over 50lbs without my strap size changing, my cup size has got smaller and I went from being the on the biggest hook to the smallest one but I was still rocking the 36" strap. I think that I carry my extra fat in an atypical way, even when I'm obese, I can still see my ribs.

I've lost 8 inches around since I started, but my cup size is still DD. I think it makes me look like a football player! I am having to adjust to my new older body. When I was younger, I had curves. Now I have no butt and no thighs and a straight waist (better because before weight loss it curved... out ) and of course what feels like out of proportion boobs. I developed very early (and freaked out gaining weight to try and cover them up at 10) so I will always be larger there I spose.

It's mystifying where the body releases fat. There seem to be sudden shrinkages in very specific areas. My face shrinks first & my abdomen last. Breast size tends to go down all along, but mostly toward the end of wt loss. It does seem to be in reverse order of gain.

I'd say you are due for a smaller size soon if not already. Congrats!

Kaplods - I am going just by the fit. But maybe my cup size has gone down a tiny bit because some (not all) bras seem a little loose. I have to try fitting at the store with a smaller size to confirm this.

Novus - Wow! I didn't know the breasts are the last place to lose fat and that fat comes in reverse order. I should have more patience then! :-)

Trudiha - I do hope that down further weight loss, my cup size gets smaller too, right now they are projecting too much out of the shirts and don't look good.

lotsakids - I can imagine a young child of 10's embarrassment in growing boobs! But I do believe that when you get to your ideal weight of 140, the cup size would be proportionately smaller too. I'm just taking Novus's words for it.

mars735 - Thank you and I do hope my cup size gets smaller soon enough!

measure yourself... this page and video can help you learn to do it correctly

i have an unusual size and had ill-fitting bras up until my 40's. now, at 44, i finally have the right size and it's a lovely thing.

I've gone down from a 42DD to a 34DD. I remember when I was younger and weighed what I do now, I was a 34C.

I have learned that a cup size isn't the same for different band sizes. So the cup size on a DD for the 42 I used to wear was MUCH bigger than the one for the 34 that I wear now - even though they both say DD.

As far as why isn't it back to where it was? I don't know?? Our bodies are unpredictable. But my best guess is that we are hanging on the fat storage and probably a little skin, too. I have found that weight loss doesn't come off evenly to the way it comes on and it can come off in one area leaving a disproportionate look and then balance out 6 months later.

It's possible that your bras were a little too small when you started losing and now they just fit.

Breasts aren't always lost last, and not everyone loses in reverse order. Unfortunately for me, the first place I lose and the last place I gain is in my breasts and and the last place I lose and first place I gain is in my hips, which means the clothes I wore going up, don't necessarily fit going down (which is just one reason I don't keep clothes that don't fit properly).

That's a slight oversimplification, as I do eventually start losing (or gaininh) everywhere, but very disproportionately. This time around, the boobies have taken the worst and most dramatic hit ever. I've gone from a slightly bottom-heavy hourglass to an extremely triangular pear.

With fat loss, sometimes there is a noticeable pattern, and sometimes it seems pretty random.

Sounds like this has nothing to do with bras not fitting but with XL shirts not fitting, right? Either way, I'm sure your breast area will catch up soon so that your XL shirts will be less tight in that area. If only we could know exactly when we would lose weight from where

32 pounds is awesome! We have similar starting, current and goal weights

moving from the first set of hooks to the last set of hooks is indicitave of a size change (or a bra stretching out).

if you are on the last hooks *and* you can put your fingers under the bra and stretch it out, your band size is definitely too big.

http://www.herroom.com/bra-fitting-advice,902,30.html

american bra manufacturers are especially greedy/lazy about sizing. if they can shove most of american women boobs into a size that sort of fits, then they don't have to make as many sizes. bra fitters here, unless in specialty shops even measure incorrectly (they do not measure under the cup, but above the cup, for band size wtf?), in order to propagate incorrect sizing.

i am a UK36J/34K at 220 lbs. most people are wearing the wrong band size, usually much bigger, in order to fit into a department store cup size. i know i did that, and am very happy that my girls are now looking pretty good in a correctly fitting bra.

Just to clarify. IF your body loses fat in reverse order of how you gained it and IF you gained weight in your breasts first THEN that will be the last place you lose it.
