I used to drink diet soda. Since there never seemed to be any at family gatherings, I would bring my own. I eventually had to start bringing a couple six packs because everyone else started drinking it. When I am hosting, I make sure I have diet AND regular because not everyone likes diet.

Good for you for sticking to healthier choices instead of going all out! Family situations can be rough, I know. Earlier today I was dreading an upcoming event that my family holds monthly. It would be the first since I started my diet. On the first weekend of every month my family, being grandparents, sisters, aunts, uncles, whoever can make it get together for a dinner of all new recipes out of my mother's Taste of Home magazines. My mom got tired of always looking at wonderful recipes and not trying them so this is how she makes sure to put her cooking magazines to use. The downside to this wonderful family gathering is the food is almost always terrible for you.
Tonight my mom brought up the upcoming dinner and I mentioned to her that I would like to add some SB friendly items that I can enjoy and not feel deprived or blow my diet. I made some suggestions and actually had fun picking out some nutritious recipes that seem wonderful. It will probably be more work for me when the day of the dinner arrives, but I think I will be proud that I'm sticking to my diet!

That's a great idea! This way, your entire family will be eating some healthier meals, too. Those Taste of Home magazines do have some great recipes, but not many of them are low fat/low calorie.

Sounds like you did great though! I had family like that. You just have to find a way to let them know that you're not the same person you were and help them to realize your goals!
