I just wanted to post briefly about one of the things which has been most important to me in this long journey: EDUCATION.
There is a ton of good information out there about nutrition. After a while you learn how to tell the good information from the quack information (quacks are usually selling something). Find out about what the human body really needs, what it's designed to digest well, what foods keep your blood sugar levels steady (and therefore drastically reduce cravings), find out about serving sizes. Separate the facts from the fads and you can separate yourself from the fat!
The more you learn, the better armed you are in this battle. Can't stress it enough.
