I posted a thread below (titled Oh my GAWD) about gaining a bunch of weight over the holidays and I now know what greatly contributed to it.
I was frequently taking 'dips' of a chocolate cream liqueur called Cask & Cream Chocolate Temptation. Some nights I would drink 3-4 shots of this stuff. I just looked up the calorie info and 1 ounce is 103 calories. Four shots would put me at 412 calories in one night! 412 calories over my usual 1200. I probably did this at LEAST 3-4 times a week. Mostly because I love the taste. It's low alcohol, nothing that will get you drunk (unless you drink an entire bottle) but it was bought for me over the holidays and I just couldn't resist it. I would have been better off eating actual chocolate!
So ok, let's add this up - 412 calories plus my usual 1200 in food puts me at 1612. 1612 over a period of, say, 4 days, puts me at 6448 calories. Which is just barely shy of enough calories to gain a pound over 2 days' time.
So there it is. I was drinking my calories. Add to that the nibbles on the cashews and the snack mixes and the cookies and the candy and the holiday dinners ------ doomed!
Watch those holiday spirits!
