Talking Steel Magnolias -- #15

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's another windy day in my corner of the world. It's a few degrees cooler today and we are supposed to be getting some rain. We got the thunder and lightning last night, but I don't think it rained more than a few drops. We made another trip to MIL's apt. yesterday; her furniture had been delivered and I wanted to do some arranging, make her bed, etc. Dumb me . . . I thought pillow shams came as a pair like pillowcases. Not so, only one to a package, so we made a special trip across town to see if we could get another one at Penneys. Bob wanted to wait, but I was afraid that since I didn't buy the original set at that store they might not have it and I didn't know when I'd get back to the first store. Luckily they did have it! I just hope she settles in and likes the place. She was to land in Omaha around 2 this afternoon so she could be there by now.

Today was the first day of final exams and because I had study halls, I spent most of the day ripping up old IEPs and sorting through file drawers. There is lots more to go through, but tomorrow I will have classes all day.

"Gma" -- It's a good thing you called the doctor's office about Jack! It's funny the pharmacist didn't say something the first time he got the prescription filled. What does JMS stand for? I hope your get your swimsuit order straightened out. We didn't get home until after 9 last night and I was so tired I headed off to bed.

Gloria -- I'm sorry you have a cold -- they are not fun any time but especially so this time of year. Hope you feel better soon!

Bob just got home and has singing practice at 6:30, so I'd better get moving on something for supper. Hope you all have a relaxing evening and a terrific Thursday tomorrow!

Good morning gals! It is going to be a scorcher today around mid 90's. Hot and miserable for Jack, but it does warm that pool up!

Jean: Oh, sorry, JMS is Just My Size. I ordered a cute lime and navy swimdress with little anchors on it. I don't usually get swimdresses because they tend to "float" in the water, but couldn't find anything else I liked. I am a cheapskate and don't want to pay $100 for a suit that only lasts one season. I did that last year and the year before. Hope your MIL enjoys her new digs. I think that very elderly people are so set in their ways that they rarely are happy with new experiences.

This week seems to be dragging for some reason. I sure wish the weekend would hurry up and get here! I want to get the last soccer game over and done with for one thing. It is going to be miserable on Saturday, sunny, humid and very hot so I hope we can get it done and over with quickly. I think it is stupid we are even playing it since the "club" isn't keeping score for the little kids any longer. Why play then? The kids don't know that unless their big mouth parents said something.I don't even know how many of our kids we are going to have. We only had 4 last week and it was really tough on them to play, especially when we have one little girl whose daddy used to be the coach whines about playing when she doesn't want to. Thomas is so fair that he can't play back to back periods. He gets beat red almost immediately. Kelly ignored the ex-coach, told Thomas so sit down before he got sick and take in water and told the girl she HAD to play.

Believe it or not, my new enrollment for my books have ALL the books backordered. I couldn't believe it. I contacted them and of course got some blah blah blah about it, but I told them if they can't have books for their members they shouldn't continue to take new members and got more of the same stupid excuses. Who knows when I will get the stupid things.

Well, I hear Jack up so I need to go make the bed and bring down the clothes basket and start laundry.

Have a good day everyone!

Good Evening, Flowers! Not much new nor exciting from my corner of the world. Another day of final exams and cleaning out the files . . . wish I could get enthused about doing that at home! Tomorrow morning is the last morning of the regular finals with the afternoon being make-up and Tuesday morning also a make-up session. We are officially done with students at 1:30.

"Gma" -- It's supposed to be hotter here the next few days . . . they are talking 90s but with wind which won't be much fun for graduation and the receptions on Sunday. It's too bad the soccer team members bail out and leave the rest to play out the last couple of games. When our kids played ball we never went on vacation until they were done. I'm sure you are looking forward to your weekend away. Bob talked to his mom today and she already had company so she couldn't talk! His MT brother is coming next week so I hope he can do some of her doctor appts. with her -- I don't think she will get right in, but I could be mistaken.

I need to pick up the kitchen and head to bed. Have a fantastic Friday and a nice long weekend, Flowers!

Good morning gals! It was warm all last night. I think I turned up the AC yesterday morning when I got cold and forgot to turn it back down again. It is in the mid 70s already so it is going to be another hot day.

After today, I won't be in here until Tuesday so unless Gloria peeks in, Jean, you are going to be talking to yourself!

I gave up on the swimsuit and told them to cancel it. I may reorder when we get back, but I am pretty mad about it. I think they totally lost the order and won't admit it. I got an email yesterday saying they needed to research more and would get back to me. That irked me so I cancelled it this morning. I don't want to fool with it over the holidays while I am gone.

At least Friday is finally here. Luckily, it has been pretty quiet out at the plant and Jack hasn't had to work out in the heat this week. It wouldn't be so bad but their uniforms are dark blue shirt and pants and their summer t-shirts that they can wear in place of their button down shirts are NAVY BLUE! How stupid is that for this part of the country? I noticed Jack had a wet white tshirt and a dark one so he must have been outside working somewhat yesterday. I know they had a lunch for a guy who is moving to the other plant yesterday and the plant manager even went. I guess this guy is a real jerk so to go to one for a guy that is the painter would be unusual I would say.

Not much else going on. Glad you MIL settled in Jean and already has company as that will relieve you of her needing you all the time.

Have a great holiday weekend and I will see you when I get back on Tuesday.

I am doing the "Happy Friday" . . . can ya tell? The wind isn't blowing today, the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and it's been a beautiful day in my neighborhood! Our final exams are finished except for one to make-up on Tuesday. The family took all week off and left for a Branson vacation last week! I'm not sure what is on our agenda this weekend. MIL's 86th birthday is Monday so I assume at least Bob and I will go see her and maybe take her to the cemetery. Other than that it will be laundry and cleaning. After 3 days of sorting and pitching at school I am in the mood to sort and pitch at home!

"Gma" -- I hate to brag about our weather today, but it is what I think of as a nice spring day. I know it won't last though. I hope you have a super weekend! You can guess some guy probably picked the color of Jack's uniform . . . probably someone who sits in air-conditioning all day long and has no clue how hot it is outside.

Well, Bob just called and wanted to know what is for supper so guess I'd better check and see what is available. I need to make a grocery run. I hate that chore!

Enjoy your long weekend, Flowers!

Afternoon everyone. We decided to come on home a day early. They were having a poker tournament and the place was packed. You couldn't find a slot machine to sit at or a game to play at. What a bore! We went swimming with a group of bratty kids and that was about it so we came home. The food was even icky! Ah, well....

I have to get hoppin' and get stuff put away. I will talk at you tomorrow

Good Evening, Flowers! We spent most of the day with MIL; we picked her up about 9:00 this morning and took her to the Memorial Day Service in her little hometown. Afterwards they served a lunch of ham sandwiches and she got to visit with alot of people she knew. Then we visited the cemetery where FIL is buried, stopped at Penneys so I could pick up a valance for her bedroom window, and back to her apt. again. Beth, Maddy, and Kolby stopped by to wish her a happy 86th birthday. We ended the trip by stopping in to say hello to Jason and his family for a quick visit. An hour and 15 minute drive doesn't sound like much, but it does take a chunk out of the day. I need to decide what I'm wearing to school tomorrow and head off to bed. I'm tired tonight!

"Gma" -- Sorry to hear that your trip wasn't as much fun as you had hoped it would be. Sometimes that happens.

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday tomorrow.

Good morning gals! Hope you are having a good morning. It rained here last night and the humidity is worse than ever now.

Jack has a dr appt and then a lab workup today so we are going to that in about 15 minutes as I need to go to the post office and mail some letters and get some stamps out of the machine since they don't open until 9 am anymore.

Jean: Sometimes things just don't go right and we decided that even though we had an extra day free, it was stupid to sit in the hotel room. The problem is there are only 2 casinos that have Baccarat and they are next to each other. Because of the poker tournament, both of them were really crowded so we just gave up. Jack was up to $600 at one time, then lost most of it the next day. He was supposed to make enough to buy the whole house new pleated shades! One thing nice that happened was when I went downstairs. Jack was playing and I was bored so I took a book and went down to the food court and sat next to a woman who was reading too. We struck up a conversation and when I told her my son lived in Northwest Indiana, she said her husband (who was playing in the tournament, reason why she was sitting reading I guess) was from Indiana. I asked her where and she said SOUTH BEND! I kind of squeaked and told her that is where I grew up and come to find out, even though I didn't recognize the name, I might have gone to grade school with him! I never did get to meet him though, but she said his parents still live in Indiana and I knew right where they lived. They live in Selmer TN now, which is about 2 hours from the casino. That was enjoyable.

I am now starting to gear up to go to Nashville the end of the June for T's birthday. I have a car reserved (we hate to put mileage on our car anymore) and I have a hotel reservation. I am buying the water park tickets when I get back home and I am going to try and find me another swimsuit too.

Well, I guess I better go. I need to do a couple things around the house before we are off. Have a good day everybody!

Good Evening, Flowers! We just got home from the end-of-the year get together. It's a "bring your own" and a dish to share. I made baked beans; not many showed up this year so brought beans back home again. This was the day from he** to put it bluntly! We found out this morning that we are losing our room at school . . . the teacher (she is a saver and boy did we pitch stuff today!) will be co-teaching in 4 different regular math classes next year and her "stuff" is being moved into another special ed. room with a teacher who is not as organized nor does she save anything. Her desk is going one direction and mine is going another; we will share a desk in another special ed. room. I have no clue what/where I will be nor will I find out until school starts in the fall. I am not excited about giving up my desk but guess I have no choice. I will clean it out tomorrow and bring all of my extra stuff home. The room we've been in will become a "come and go" room with different teachers using it for different classes throughout the day. Out of 139 graduates, 70+ will be back next year attending the charter school program and we are getting 170+ 9th graders. It is going to be crowded no matter what room we are in. That's approximately 735+ students in a school built for 350 back in the 60s, plus 2 additions of 12 classrooms over the years.

We have a districtwide retirement breakfast in the morning, a catered lunch at noon, and we're supposed to be checked out by 1:00. I don't see that happening unless we get alot done in the morning.

"Gma" -- It is a small world when you run into someone familiar with your home area. I hope Jack's lab results are good.

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow! Today seemed like it was Monday.

Good Wednesday morning gals! Woohoo, first day in the pool today. I can't wait to get out there and get to swimming. I do so much better in the pool and can workout a lot longer too. I am committed to NOT stressing about people in the pool this year.

Jack is now on a muscle relaxer for his foot and we have to buy a splint for him to wear to stretch the muscle/tendons from his heel to help his plantar faciatis. We were one of the first to arrive at the drs and were there so long, I thought they had kidnapped him and sold him into sex slavery.... I do hate that practice, but it is a royal pain to start all over with another one. If you remember I was complaining about how many drs we had been through in 3 years, well he had another new one! This guy is Indian I believe, and Jack could barely understand him! GROAN! No wonder people hate to go to the doctors when every time they go they see someone new!

I bought a new swimsuit and coverup to take to Nashville. I was going to get a swimdress style, but the ones I liked were all on back order or looked dumpy. I settled for another tank style suit in deep purple that laces up the front for a little sex appeal. I need something to draw attention away from my big stomach! I got a cute caftan to wear with it and thought it would be great to sit out in and read at the water park when I wasn't swimming. The kids and Jack can enjoy the slides, there is no way I can climb all those steps and try and sit from a standing position with my bad knee onto those slides so it is the pool only for me, which is fine!

I guess I better get a move on. I just heard the dryer go off and I have the bed to make and clothes basket to bring down.

have a great day girls!

Good Evening, Flowers! It is hot, hot, hot here today! The weatherman said it would be cloudy and cooler . . . he obviously lied. We were done at 1:00 today after having a catered dinner which was wonderful -- lots of salads, scalloped potatoes, chicken, meat balls, and a pork loin. We pitched some more stuff, moved the rest of the materials out of the room, then I cleaned out what used to be my desk and brought it all home. I even threw away a questionnaire from the principal regarding all of our STUPID in-service days on "Schools That Work." I was afraid if I wrote down what I really thought I probably would be on his bad side for the rest of the time we have to work together. I even threw away hand-outs from the special ed. director and a reading consultant that I had to listen to this year. I figured since I don't have a desk of my own nor a room to call "home" I wasn't going to save any excess paper.

"Gma" -- I'm glad you found a swimsuit that you like. I can't believe that Jack has suffered all this time with his foot. Is he going to wear the brace at night while he sleeps? I've seen them advertised in different catalogs from time to time, so I hope it works for him!

Not much else is newsy from here. I need to make a grocery list for tomorrow. Have a terrific Thursday!

Good morning girls! I hope you are all doing well this morning. It rained here early evening and I didn't think it could get much more humid, but it has!

I did 70 minutes in the pool yesterday and paid for it all day. Even my wrists hurt from lap swimming! I had Jack put Icy Hot across my shoulders and I took 2 sleeping pills and crashed at 7 PM. I am ok this morning, so I wonder if part of it was the rain moving through. The hot weather here has made the pool lovely already. Usually it is {{{COLD}}} this time of year.

My friend whose husband had to have new veining put in his leg is in real trouble. They brought him home from the hospital with a home care nurse on Tuesday, on Wed the nurse said it looked like he was getting infected and she called his doctor. Both of them called his doctor for FOUR days with no response back and the nurse finally said to take him to the emergency room. They put him in the hospital for 2-3 weeks now in a special bed that "floats" like a raft and moves him every hour. He may lose his leg up to his hip, has to have more surgery to get it all cleaned out and the only thing the jerk dr said was, "Oh, this is worse than I thought it would be." I told her if she can get an affidavit from the nurse I would sue his pants off. They have had such a rough time of it and they have no children, parents, siblings or anything for support. She is all alone in this.

Jean: I don't blame you! I am afraid if would have taken the survey and if it had my name on it, taped over it, copied it and filled it out anonymously and shoved it in his box. From all the things you have said over time, he sounds like a crummy principal that doesn't know how to run a school at all. I know you will be glad to be at home for awhile and get some relaxation away from kids. As for Jack, we had to work around his work schedule to get him an appointment so he didn't lose his bonus days. It takes a good 2 weeks to get any appointment with this dumb practice anyway. I am going to order his splint today and I demanded he get his meds on the way home from work. He was in a lot of pain last night and the ball thing is just not working for him.

Everyone have a great day today!

Good Afternoon, Flowers! I have been puttering around most of the day so far. I got a later than usual start and then got a call from my best friend whose daughter just had baby girl #3. "Grandma" had the other two girls with her; a 4 year old and a 2 year old. Like she said, you forget how busy they are! Anyhow, I talked on the phone way too long!

I've got laundry going and need to unload the dishwasher. I just noticed the mailman driving away so will check the mailbox as soon as I finish here.

"Gma" -- I hope Jack's meds help the pain. I can identify! I did have good luck with PT though. I'm glad that you are feeling better today, after your swim. I feel sorry for your friend . . . I think I would have hauled the guy to the ER and demanded he be seen long before I'd wait for a doctor to call back. I don't know what some of these doctors are thinking. I am so afraid ours is going to retire one of these days . . . his house has been for sale for a couple of years. The price has come down to $650,000! It is big and on the lake, but this is a town where most of the nicer, newer homes range around $200,000+. He is a couple years younger than we are and we have kids the same age who went to school together. His son is a doctor in Georgia; they go visit quite often and really like it down there.

I need to keep moving. Every room I go into needs attention of some sort and I know Bob will ask what I did today. No rest for the wicked! Have a fantastic Friday tomorrow!

Good morning gals! My workout in the pool went a little easier yesterday and I figure each day will get easier. The water was quite cool but we had rain and I had refilled it so I imagine that was why. I just found out the president of the association had a stroke back in February and is in pretty bad shape. He is currently in an assisted living place and looks like he will have to sell his condo here. That is bad news for us because he is the only one keeping it up and going as it should be. I only hope if they elect a new president he or she does a decent job. I know I don't think either one of us would want the job. We don't even go to the monthly meetings like we should.

Jean: "Bob, I sat all day and talked on the phone..." Guess that wouldn't be a way to have the conversation. Jack always says, "How was your day?" so I can get around the fact I didn't do much if I lazed around! I ordered his splint online as we couldn't find one anywhere. We found ankle braces but nothing for the heel that stretches that muscle and tendons. I am going to get him started on using one of my exercise bands. I saw it online with the other foot products where you put the band under the toe area and pull up. We have to find out if our insurance will pay for physical therapy and so Jack has to call Tricare and ask.

We did a bunch of shopping last night and got Jack's meds. I am hoping they will help with the pain some for him. He was really hurting last night. I have to get on the ball and get a grocery list made up and get to the commissary, but I always dread it so much I think I drag my feet.

I see that Jack will be up in a couple minutes so I guess I better get up and get the cat box cleaned etc and let the dog out this morning. Have a good day everybody!

Good Afternoon, Flowers! The weather is trying to decided what to do . . . the sun has been in and out all day. It's hot with no rain in sight and we need it badly. I ran some errands this morning; I took a rolling desk chair to school a few years ago and wanted to pick that up and bring it home before it disappeared.

"Gma" -- Tell Jack to do the stair step routine until the splint arrives. I have an incline board that I can use which I got from PT -- it stretches the leg muscles as well as the foot and ankle muscles. Since I ran errands this morning it doesn't look like I've accomplished much around here today either. Our outside water faucet sprung a leak last night so Bob is home tinkering with that. He had to get at it through the basement ceiling so has to replace a ceiling tile too. I thought of all kinds of things I could do except he had the water turned off for quite awhile. So I'm on the computer waiting until he is done. I just got an email from a friend who used to work in our school library. She retired several years ago and moved away; she has a mass of some sort in her stomach area and is waiting for the doctor to call with a plan of action. She is the nicest person you'd ever want to meet and one of the most religious people I know. I am just sick about it.

Tomorrow is my morning to work in the hospital gift shop and then the wedding in the afternoon. Hope you are having a nice day and enjoy the weekend!
