Default 9 Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

KO posted a great article (9 Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain) here, but due to copyright protections, we have to limit posting to quotes from articles, rather than the whole thing. So KO picked out her favorite quote:

Quote:
9. During the holiday season carry a 3"x5" card with you and write down everything you eat. One study of participants in a weight control program found that those who monitored their eating maintained their losses; those who didn’t gained weight during the holidays.
Here's a link to the whole article (pages 7 and 8 of this .pdf document).

Thanks, KO!

Those are some great tips. I especially like the note card one, and the one about committing your food to your friend/spouse before even going to the party.

Do you happen to recall what web site it was from?

KO, thanks for posting these...they are great!

However, we do have to be careful and make sure we aren't breaking any copyright laws. We're allowed to quote a section of an article, but not the whole thing. Instead, can you post your favorite tip and then give the link to the website where you found the article? That way we don't take the chance of the author getting upset with the chicks and/or asking us to remove it from the site. Okay?

I'm posting this here instead of a PM so that everyone else knows that we need to do this...it's something I'm still learning to remember to do ( ), so I know that I need to be reminded...hopefully this will help us remember to quote only small portions and then link to the item to avoid copyright violations.

Thanks so much KO! Your instincts are very sound; I'm sure this will be a great help to many of us as we navigate the dangerous holiday season!

Hi,
I loved the tip about using note cards to record foods. I can keep one in my pocket and then file it in an old recipe box when the day is over. Thanks,
Heidi

LOL...

I think the only way for me to NOT gain is to die. But we'll see

WW has been helpful with their online Point Tracker -- I write every single thing in and it does help. Makes me feel a bit ashamed when I see all that I've eaten by 3p!
