    Junebug: I think we must provide endless amusement to people driving past...the bf gave us a "running team name" - Tall & Trim (my surname is Trim). I thought it was clever lol.

    When we first started running together he was fitter than I was and we'd do this 12km run around the lake and THEN run another 3kms up Mt Ainslie...because he's evil lol.

    Now however he's been out of action for about 2 months or so and so his fitness is quite down and I get to be the one doing all the whip cracking! Muhaha! What goes around comes around

    I did 8kms yesterday morning but didn't get out today (was otherwise occupied post-valentines lol). I have a huge next few days so I am really going to make an effort to get out tomorrow and on the weekend. At least 8kms but maybe i'll try 10 or 11...wish me luck!

  • 2.83 miles in 32 minutes. I'm running in an indoor track and I thought 27 laps was 3 miles. But then when I finished, I noticed that 28 laps, not 27 made 3 miles. So I only did 2.83 miles. I'm hoping to get a 4 mile run in on Saturday.

    good job - i ran out of time - will be running tomorrow (I have a medical condition now too that is aggrevating me - not to do with my legs but my *** so it hurts - will see dr. tomorrow)
  • Naw, unfortunately, I only did 2.83 miles. The track said 552.58 feet is in one lap, thus that makes 2.83 miles (1 mile has 5280 feet). I'm an engineer, so I took a lot of math too. I wish it was 2.89 miles though.

    Today I did 20 laps, which came out to about 2.09 miles. I finished in 25 minutes. My legs felt tired though. I ran after lifting weights (upper body), but tomorrow will be a rest day. I don't want to burn myself out. I don't think I will do a 4 miler for another 2 weeks.
  • sadness - all set for my come back to fitness and I have to have a minor surgical procedure that may keep me away for a bit more - had it already - already feeling ick. oh well. now maybe I'll concentrate on the food - but keep running!

  • but if 28 = 3 miles then 28/3 - .10714286 * 27 = 2.8928572 where as what you are saying is that you would have to run 28.67 laps to make 3 miles

  • Hi all, my first post here too -- and I'm pretty much resolved myself to do a weekly Saturday run (on top of my other exercises, see below) after benchmarking myself on my first 5k (see other recent thread on that).

    I've found a nearby trail that's about 4 miles long so it should be good practice & I look forward to making my next 5k in under half an hour!

    Your math is right, and it got me thinking. So I when I went to the gym today, I checked the distance after I ran and saw that 28 laps (plus 146 yards) make 3 miles. I forgot to add the extra yardage. 1 lap on that track is about 552 feet. Unfortunately, I checked after I ran, so once again I'm a little under 3 miles (2.99), but its okay. The other day I did 30 laps so I finally went over the 3 mile hump.

    I don't know if I will be able to run my 4 miles on Saturday. I've been feeling so tired lately and this weekend is very busy. But I will try. Hopefully, I will be able to do it. If the weather stays warm (over 30 degrees that is), I may even try to run outside!
  • Hi everyone!
    This is my first post here, and I am pretty new to this site. I never, EVER thought I could run, but in October 2006, I decided to take it really slow and build up gradually. I work out on the treadmill 5-6 days each week, running for an hour 3-4 days, and walking for 30 mins. 2-3 days. About a month ago, I got up to 6.5 miles during my hour runs which was a HUGE accomplishment for me!
    I had to cut back over the past few weeks because of an injury, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Of course, runners get the occasional blister, and when I started running I didn't have the greatest shoes (I have since bought a pair that I LOVE!). Anyway, I got several blisters a couple of months ago, and they were healing just fine. Then, about two weeks ago, one of the blisters got really infected, causing my foot to swell, and making it hard to put on a shoe let alone run. It has since gotten better, but of course I have taken some steps backwards in the speed and distance I am able to run. Has this happened to anyone else? I've had blisters before, and never had this problem. It's really frustrating when I want to run but physically can't!
  • I got blisters on the big toe of my left foot when I started to train for the marathon (and when I ran distances longer than 10 miles). I got one of those Dr. Scholl's blister bandage and it really helped. When I used the bandage the blister did not grow as big. You may also try buying running socks. They help to remove the moisture (or something like that) so that you don't get blisters.

    Oh, and running 6.5 miles on one hour is great!!! I wish I could do that. How long did it take you to get to that speed and what level did you start at?
