Here.
I'm alright.
Been lazy past couple months, but also it's because my efforts were in vain and I just kept maintaining weight! (Finally just broke through the few month plateau!)

I'm going to revamp my WOE and WOL. Focusing on healthy exercise daily, and low carb lifestyle..
Hoping to jumpstart my weight loss again!

My period is coming but it's kinda random. Also I got a copper IUD put in last november so it makes me have contractions when I have my period(side effect that is supposed to subside 6mo to a year of having it in, so it def. wasn't as bad when I first got it put in). Luckily I got some muscle relaxants to stop it. Also ibuprofen 800 mg every 4 hrs or so will stop the contractions. I think the IUD helps me have a period and the metformin together.
I'm grateful for bleeding but I do notice the color in my face is pale and blue and purple under my eyes when I have my period. Anemia most likely so I have to up my dose of vitamins and get enough iron for sure!

Firesoulx Gosh -- maintaing weight is an achievement in my book! I have had persistent weight CREEP in the past and just getting to be STILL is a winner! Hang in there.

Who is here this month?

Moi.

How are you?

Great!

How was last month?

Good!

How is your PCOS management last month?

BODY: Stable, finding the summer groove. Trying to get it to move to the losing side. Sex is awesome. Hello, libido. So that's where you were! No TOM though. Still waiting... sigh.

MIND: Upbeat, good, thinking new interesting things so pretty lively. A bit forgetful at times though and I am not sure why. Sleep? Age? It's making taking me meds a bit challenging. I keep wondering about perimenopause.

HEART: Had some conflict but resolved with coworker. But for a while it was a bit ugh. Some minor venty ughs but overall handled it reasonably. Not crying jags or weepies or overemotey -- which has happened in past with crazy pcos moods!

SOUL: Topped up, at peace. So good there.

What are you going to work on in July?

More of same. I really cannot complain here because June was overall a good month. Small tweaks, sure, but overall good.

Who is here this month?
*waves*

How are you?
Been better...we're getting to the end of the semester, so work is getting pretty stressful.

How was last month?
Not bad...I ended it with a trip to Tokyo to see friends and managed to knock off a little more than 12 lbs by working my tail feathers off, so I'll call that a win.

How is your PCOS management last month?
Not terrible...I had a pretty normal period! It only lasted 5 days, which is pretty awesome since they usually range from a week to 2 1/2 weeks (my longest being 3 1/2 months...want to guess when I got my diagnosis?).

What are you going to work on in July?
More water, different exercises. I think my body is getting tired of ridiculously long bike rides, so I started the 30 Day Shred today. I sweated an absolutely disgusting amount (Japanese humidity is ridiculous and unfortunately I'm prone to sweating a lot anyway) but it wasn't actually that bad. I need to work on better breakfasts too...maybe start making things at night since I'm too lazy to do it in the morning.

Who is here this month?

I am!

How are you?

I'll break it down like Astrophe did. Emotionally, I'm okay. Work-wise, I have a lot on my plate. Physically? I'm not doing so good. I have a hurt knee which I am going to see a doctor about on Friday. My foot thing that I might have mentioned here before is really a back nerve thing, rather than a foot thing, so I need to start taking care of my stress (muscle tension is causing it, rather than something else). I scraped my elbow pretty badly and it hurt a lot and it's still healing.

How was last month?

It was okay. I had a lot of work travel, which made it hard for me on so many levels. But I also had fun. I feel like being a hermit now though.

How is your PCOS management last month?

I think it was good. I'm still getting my periods regularly, I haven't seen an increase or decrease in the other symptoms. I'm trying to treat my IR.

I've gotten better at the IR thing too. I've discovered it's less about the quality -- i.e. carbs or such -- and a lot more about the QUANTITY. So, this past week has been an interesting test to see how low I can get my blood sugar levels and the conclusion is that as long as I eat under 1500 calories a day, preferably in the 1300 range, I can keep my FBG in the low 80s and at night too.

I always thought it was the quality of the food -- low carb, lots of protein. It's turning out that it's not...

What are you going to work on in July?

Well, the travel and the hurt knee means I've had to decrease my intensity of my workouts, although I am doing them! And I've gained weight. I'm up to 168.2 lbs, which I am going to change on my ticker in a second. My goal is to get the pounds off and focus on managing my IR, of course.

Eating less, exercising, and continuity should make the pounds come off. I know it won't be fast, it never is for us, right?

But, I do have my goal of my trip with the boyfriend in the fall (although now he's saying he wants to go to his hometown to visit instead of a proper vacation).

And.... I'm back to working on my education stuff. So, all in all, it's a lot on my plate, which is why I end up stressed so much, to the point it compresses nerves that affect my toes! Yikes! One of the things I have vowed to do is to get more massages in my life. I always say it but I never do it, but I think if I want to keep this up, I'm going to have to.

So, hopefully, I'll be back more regularly. I think checking in here with others really does help to keep my focus. I just have to do it. No more talking about it.

Who is here this month?

I am Finally

How are you?

Im good Minus I have pneumonia, How it happened I dont know.. Our weather was pretty crappy. Actually side note, I had a couple from Texas on vacation here (Victoria BC) and the poor woman was buying sweaters and sweatpants!! I myself have been dying with heat. I dont tolerate it very well and maybe that's because ive lived in some of the coldest places in Canada.

How was last month?

Last month was awesome, It all finally makes sense to me. There is no magic pill (it actually really bugs me that people just want the weight loss from pills not the other stuff the hard work.) Ive been doing bootcamp now for 8 weeks, and also walking up mount doug..(not really a walk more like a hike). It is beautiful here thats for sure. Once I get to the top of the mountain i can see pretty much the entire city and the states cause they are just across the water. But since making little changes I am now down 9 inches in my body, im down 10.3 pounds ( Im not on anything for my ir) and down a dress size. oh and I have had three periods in three months!!!!

Also, The endo that i will never see again was wrong, she said the only way i was going to get the dark patches under my arms and on my neck was by taking Metformin, Boy was she wrong.. Without Metformin and just exercise (because that also helps with ir) I have no dark patches Not one!

How is your PCOS management last month?

well it was awesome!! exercise and hard work are key, all because i have pcos doesn't mean i cant lose weight it just means i have to work harder!

Oh and I have made little changes to my diet, But if i want chocolate i have it and if i want pizza i have a slice, Im trying moderation, because if i can loose the weight by not changing too much with my diet, that means when I ready to maintain... It will be easier because I haven't changed much

What are you going to work on in July?

Im just going to keep on trucking! 8 weeks ago i started doing 5 second planks and last week I got up to a min!!! I also can do pushups and dips!!! I just keep wondering what else can my body do in more time!!

Smile Can anyone jump in and join?

Who is here this month? I'm new to the group in general--to the forum, to this group
My name is Alicia

How are you? I'm... okay. Got diagnosed with PCOS over a decade ago, was told it was "no big deal" since infertility was not a feature for me.

Last month I saw a specialist in Cincinnati and what a mind blower.
He explained the full deal of PCOS to me, put me on a new diet--abrupt goodbye to carbs and sugar, which I won't lie put me in a tailspin--and three weeks later introduced Metformin into my regimen as well.

I'm still learning to deal with these dietary changes (I'm constantly hungry, not supposed to be, can't figure out why I am?).
Excited that I initially lost the first weight loss in FOUR years!!! But wishing I'd drop some more.

How was last month? I have really not exercised. I can't seem to get motivated. The heat, I think, is part of it. (I'm not a summer person and I hate the heat.) But I feel better in general.

How is your PCOS management last month? Things are markedly better, but I'm having more "regular" periods for the first time in my life. Not sure I like having them so frequently, lol.

What are you going to work on in July? I need to exercise, just a bit every day. I have a tendency to want to just do a BUNCH a few days a week and then nothing the rest of the time. Then I'll go through weeks where I do nothing. I need to be accountable to people, I think. That would motivate me to get up off my butt. (A real-time workout buddy would be best, but those are hard to come by, I think.)

Quick update. I'm down a little bit this morning.

I'm hungry again.... this lower calorie thing makes me hungry! It's not a bad thing, I think we sometimes forget what it means.

I also noticed that if I drink coffee with sugar, my blood levels skyrocket. If I eat sugar no coffee, no problem. If I eat coffee, no sugar, no problem.

The combination seems to be killer for me!

Unhappy Weight loss impossible

I am 30 y/o, was dx with pcos when I was about 23-24. Had lap band surgery in 2008 and was down to 145 lbs... My goal weight. Yay. Not so fast..... Back up to 185 lb now. Granted I was not exercising and was eating pretty horribly. In early April of this year I got myself a YMCA membership. Changed my eating habits drastically. I have been consistently going to the gym 6x/week for an hour each day and on Tuesdays I do 3 classes which totals 2.5 hours of intense cardio/strength training/core work.... Plus see a personal trainer once a week. My calorie intake is about 1300-1400 a day, high protein.

Recently saw a nutritionist and was told to lower calories to 1200 a day. Also following up with endocrinologist soon - August 13th. I was recently put back on metformin, only 500 mg, and the nutritionist spoke to the endo and he said I might need an increase.

Nothing seems to be working. I have not lost a single pound in 3 months! In fact I have gained weight and inches as my clothing is fitting tighter the ever. Tried diuretics to see if I was holding water weight, tried diet pills, tried upping water intake, tried lowering carbs and sugar intake, got myself a fitbit (it's a pedometer on steroids -- it's amazing)..... Tried EVERYTHING!!! I am at my wits end and am so frustrated. I don't know if it's the pcos or something else that is terribly wrong that my body is holding on to this weight. Has anyone else experienced this? Help!! I feel so alone. And drs aren't any help. They just tell me to exercise more, drink more water, eat less calories. For goodness sake I'm only eating 1200 a day as it is.... And average 600-650 calorie loss per day in exercise. That is a huge calorie deficit daily probably about 1000 at least.

Sorry to ramble.... Just so tired of doing this and being on this wheel.... I don't know how much more I can take.

Just popping in for a quick howdy! I'm traveling so I'm not yet home where I can have longer internet times.

Enjoying the travel visiting friends and family -- kinda winging it on the food portions and trying to keep it sane despite not having my usual tools to measure/weigh. Hopefully coming home won't be too bad.

Period watch -- scanty period. But something is better than nothing right?

Back soon!

No worries.

How about if you post a sample of your daily menu?

Also, little things that you may or may not be doing:
- Are you weighing/measuring your food?
- How much water are you drinking?
- What are your macros (ratio of carbs/protein/fat)?

And YES, actually, for PCOS women, losing weight can be a struggle, but usually it's a question of finding out what works for your body type. That's the hard part because what works for one, maybe not work for someone else -- our physical chemistry is different and our psychological make up is different.

I went through a period where I also exercised my little body off and didn't lose weight. It took a while to figure out that exercising my calories off wasn't going to work, it had to be the food more than exercise.

Also, depending on what kind of PCOS patient you are, other things may work or not work for you.

I found a great blogger who has this site: http://www.paleoforwomen.com/

She writes about PCOS and becoming healthy eating a paleo diet. She, differently that what many people think about paleo, claims that women need to eat "healthy" carbs in order to have a healthy reproductive system. She explains how our endocrine system is much more complex than that of a man's and there are too many studies that only support certain diets/fasts for men... and that doesn't work for women.

She is also another that is finding a connection between stress/adrenal system/PCOS and how overstressing ourselves can actually make our PCOS symptoms worse and stop weight loss.

You sounded a little bit stressed out... maybe you need to rethink how you're approaching this. Rather than focusing on how much weight you're losing, maybe you need to focus on how HEALTHY you're becoming, regardless of the weight.
