I don't know where Ian is but I've got to say that I always, always appreciated every single one of his posts. They are without a doubt some of the best motivational posts that kept me going when I was ready to throw the towel in. Ian, you need to come back. You speak from wisdom and hard knocks and what really works.

Ummm hi ! So yeah- I was trying to do low carb so I was eating unsalted roasted cashews daily- and packed on 5 lbs QUICK! Apparently it's the worst one. I have avoided most all nuts besides a few almonds but my bf who is really into fitness told me that I should avoid nuts.. I also think I eat more than a serving. Whooooooops!

Nuts are generally great for weight loss. Almonds, pistachios, walnuts, peanuts, and yes, cashews should be good for you, if you're eating these to keep you full. Generally, 1 ounce of nuts = ~135 calories, though that still depends on your nut of choice. Personally, I eat nuts to replace a meal, so I'm full, keep any cravings I have at bay, and get a chock full of nutrients my body needs. Add some protein and you're all good.

As with everything else, moderation is the key. Anything excessive would of course, not be good for you. Perhaps you just ate larger portions of the nuts, or ate them with some other (not so healthy) food - and that's why you gained weight. Not really sure.

At any rate, don't be discouraged. Continue to try to find what works for you.

For me, unsalted cashews are really great. I love the way they taste and I need the healthy fat in my diet.

They are calorie dense though. So I make sure to weigh them and portion them into little snack baggies. That way I know the calorie amount I am consuming. It's too easy for me to go overboard!

I'm on HFLC and can eat a whole tin of fancy mxed nuts in an afternoon, and still lose weight. We have a pecan tree in the yard, and I eat those till they are gone. So I guess it depends on your diet.

I love nuts. Until I'm back to reeling in my inner child, I'm limited to 1x per. I get the Whole Foods unsalted bags of (raw)Almonds and walnuts.

I like raw nuts almonds, walnuts and pistachios. I make all sorts of snacks at home and throw in plenty of nuts. Best is to eat them raw instead, when you mix salt or sugar they add to your waistline.
