Default Hair Frustration

I am so blasted frustrated with my hair! I started a new job on May 5 so right before that, I went to a local, well recommended salon here and had the owner cut my hair. When he got done with it, oh my, it looked great.

But now?

FREAKIN' FLIPPY DOODLES KEEP POPPING UP ON ONE SIDE OF MY HEAD!!!!

Look here. This is the side that styles quite nicely and looks good:

Now, for the flippy doodle side:

ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Still love the new style on you! And I hope you are liking your new job!

Are you able to straighten it with a hair iron or curling iron? And kind of force it to curl under the same way?

Do you use any hair product in your hair? Maybe try a straightener product to use with the curling iron?

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along. I always wish I could have my hair done professionally every single morning as it never ever comes out the same way the stylist does it!

Thank you, elvislover. I am loving my new job but oh to win the lottery and have my hair professionally done every day!

I blow it dry and use a round brush to style it. I'm seriously considering trying a flat iron although I've never used a curling or flat iron of any sort. I am seriously under talented when it comes to hair styling.

Heh. I'm tempted. That or shave my head. My hair used to be straight all over and I actually liked it like that. But now, I'm getting these curls but only in spots. I just don't geddit.

If the dryer and round brush isn't working, just buy a cheap flat iron. You'll be able to get one for under $20 now.

Flat iron! Once you get used to using it, it will literally take you less then a minute to make your style perfect!

John Freida makes a hot air brush that would probably work beautifully for your hairstyle. Ebay sells them reasonably. I'd also try a little mousse to make your hair easier to work with and don't forget heat protectant spray!

Okay, this sounds weird but it has worked for me when I've had similar issues. Are you using the same hand to style both sides? I found if I switch hands (using left hand for right side of hair, right hand for left side) it has fixed the problem.

Worth a shot.

Hi Garnet - I think tour hair looks great! We're all so critical of our own hair though and see flaws that nobody else would consider a flaw (at least I do!).

I had straight - straight hair for most of my life and styled it much as you do - hair dryer and round brush. About 7 years ago I noticed my hair getting more wavy. And then it just kept getting more and more wavy. It became a daily battle for me to blow it straight, and then eventually flat iron it, and I still was never satisfied with the outcome (not to mention the damage I was causing).

About two years ago I started seeing a new stylist. She asked me if I ever let my hair just be naturally curly. I was taken aback. I never thought of my hair as curly before, but sure enough, when I stopped torturing it with heat everyday my hair is naturally curly! Now I let it dry natural, use a little bit of texturizing product and do some minimal blow dryer styling just to frame my face (to tame the curls a bit). In all I spend less than 10 minutes on my hair each morning (other than the natural drying time - about an hour) and I've never been happier with it!

I like it!

Flat iron will do wonders, and spray the really stubborn pieces with hair spray or thermal spray BEFORE hitting it with the flat iron.

Just a note about flat irons. The $20 ones don't always work for everyone, at least in my case. I bought one once and was so excited, but it barely did anything to my hair. Sure it was more straight, not completely straight, but it was still a frizzy mess. The next time I got my hair cut I took note of what brand of flat iron she had because my hair came out pin straight, no frizz and SHINY. I knew it wasn't the products she used because I don't use bargain basement shampoo or conditioner and I asked her not to put anything in my hair for styling.

So I asked for a CHI flat iron for Christmas that year and got it. NOW I get what all the fuss is about with flat irons. The cheap ones just did not do anything for my hair and left me feeling like I simply had bad hair.
