Smile Introducing *me*! :)

Hi everyone
I'm new here and have finally decided which diet I am going to go on. I just got back from grocery shopping and I am going to do my own version of low carb.
I was on Atkins a couple of years ago and lost almost 50 pounds but I never was comfortable with the amount of saturated fat that was on that diet from all the meat, butter, cheese, bacon, etc. I also do not like eating dairy, pork or beef so I am going to leave those things out of my plan and concentrate on fish (I love fish!) and other seafoods, good oils like olive oil and avocado, lots of green veggies and low glycemic fruits once in a while for variety. I'm also going to add nuts and seeds in moderation as I think they are important to eat (good fats) as well as meats like lamb and bison and other wild meats because they are grassfed.
I'm lucky to live across the street from a wonderful health food store that has all this food available at decent prices.
So there you have it....my plan is modified low carb and I hope to do better this time lowcarbing then I did the last time.
Oh yes....I'm a former Torontonian (Etobicoke area) now living in Hamilton. I plan to move to Guelph in about 3 years.

I so know what you mean about Atkins. I was on Atkins back in 1999/2000 and lost over 100lbs...I saw my Dr in early 2001 and he said my cholesterol was WAY UP and alot of other things. I mean it's great to lose all the weight but not when you develop high cholesterol and hardening of the arteries. I have enough health issues as it is (including heart problems) without adding to it. Since then I have gained back all the weight. I can use many excuses in the book but the main reason for the gain was because of lack of finances. I was off work on disability for two and a half years following a car accident. I am now back to work and have spent the last year really pulling up my boot straps. I still have a long way to go and at this point feel I could use a buddy. My husband is a great supporter, but its not the same as having someone else whom is losing weight for similar reasons as yours, has some of the same health issues and is doing an alternative low carb way.
