Default The Dreaded Picture

I just joined and immediately went on mini vacation to see family. I gained three pounds!!! I felt like I was starving the whole time. To top it off I got on facebook and my daughter posted some pictures of me and the grandkids. I look awful! That should be motivating, but I must admit I am despressed. I guess I never realized how bad I look. It certainly is a reality check. There is no denying how big I am. I have a friend who is taking phetermine (sp?) and I am very tempted, but I know that diet pills can be harmful. At this point however, I am tempted to try anything. I have a problem with patience and want to see immediate results and when I don't I give up. In need of a kick in the pants and encouragement. Just venting, I am usually a very upbeat person. Hope you are having a better day than me!

Hi Hiphipaway (great username by the way), and welcome to 3FC!

I understand what you're going through, in fact most people on these boards do. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words, and even though we fit into our clothes (mostly) and see ourselves in the mirror daily, someone takes a photo and suddenly it's like we don't recognize ourselves.

I also understand about patience, we want to lose weight and we want it off now. While unfortunately it doesn't work that way, you've now found a place where you can check in, get motivation and motivate others along your journey. Every success will celebrated and every slip-up understood. If you can stick with the board it will help you get through the dietary and physical activity changes that you need to make to get healthy.

There are lots of forums here about different types of diet and exercise so I'm sure you'll find one that fits your lifestyle.

Welcome again, and good luck!

We've all been there. The dreaded picture that forces us to acknowledge reality. Mine was a picture of my brother and me at our cousin's wedding. I was shocked at how big I looked and it sent me into a deep depression.

There is no quick fix. The good news is, time flies. Do you look at your grandkids and think that they were just babies yesterday? Do you look at your daughter and remember when she was little? Time flies. You'll look up and another year will have passed so you might as well buckle down and get started today. You'll be so glad that you did.

Good luck!

I hate taking pictures and I have none to post for before pics because of this.

I think a lot of us here definitely feel your pain! Welcome!

I don't trust diet pills, but to each their own! I understand well that quick results are important, but I've learned that if it's not something I can feasibly stick with forever and always, in the end it won't work.
