Arrow HELP! Im a diabetic ( totally out of control) who needs to help getting a hold on it

Hello my new friends, I am Debbie, I'm almost 57 (OCT 14) I am a type 2 diabetic who is totally out of control,,, I can't stop eating, I've gained 10 lbs in the last month or so..my sugar has ranged from 545 to 70 in the last few days... My life is full of stress so I eat when I'm stressed.. ( my 76 yr old brother and his 73 yr old wife are both on hospice and I am about the only one able to help them.. then my ex husband went in for an emergency heart by bass last night in California (I'm in Michigan) (( if you havent figured it out so far I am a co-depenent as well.. My son lost his job, one of my sisters is in Fla taking care of her estate and called me she is sick and I had to book her a flight back to Mi today. It seems I have lost my balance and serenity...and the ability to just eat for to survie instead of eating 24/7 out of stress.... I need help.. I am on 2 insulins and all kinds of medication.. So ladies and gents where do I start.. ( I keep hearing the words"" follow the yellow brick road" in my head" so were here at the first step..I'm in Munchin land and I want to stay there, but its going to kill me or put me on dialisis.. So how do I start this journey thats going to help me become healthier on a daily basis and in as a benifit lose some weight.. Can someone gently suggest what blogs or support forum I need to go join and how to navagate thru this site Nice to meet you all Deb( what is a trackbacks?)

Welcome! I am sorry to hear about all of the stress you are going through right now. It sounds like you have already identified the problem. That is the first step to get going in the right direction! I am sorry I don't have it all mapped out as to where to go next, but just know that there are many people going through a similar situation, and I'm sure they will be here shortly to help you out. Just believe in your own power to do something good for yourself! And welcome again!

HI! Welcome! This is a wonderful place for support!

It's so hard to point you were to begin, but you have made the first step by seeking help. There is a special section for diabetes support here, and a general Dieting with Obstacles section here. Both of those may help! And of course there is a specific section for weight loss support here.

Is there a way to discuss diet with your doctor at all?

As for all of the stress. . . that tough! You have a lot on your plate (no pun intended). I have a hard time dealing with stress, emotions, etc etc, without eating for comfort or going straight into a binge.

My best advice is to come here, daily! You will figure out what will work for you. To start, perhaps, cut portion size and add some activity into your day.

Good luck! Hope to see you around.

I am sorry about all the stress that you are having in your life right now. Those blood sugar numbers are pretty scary.

We have a great diabetes thread. Come on over and hang out

Hello Shadowdancer! It sounds like you like to help people. That is great! However, you can't help anyone if you aren't healthy yourself. You HAVE to make time for yourself. Have you talked to your dr. about what you should be eating? He/she should have a diet that will help you.

Regarding support, your in a great forum that has soooo many different places you can go for support. Make sure you stay active. Visit the site everyday!! You stop doing that, and your support will lapse.

When I quit smoking I heard a great way of looking at things. I was told that there are people every day dealing with tragedies who do not resort to a cigarette for comfort. So everytime I got stressed I would try and think like a nonsmoker. This time, with weight loss, I am trying to think, what would a skinny person do? (Kind of like the What Would Jesus Do phrase. lol). Hope that helps. And you CAN do this.

Dear Shadowdancer,

Start right now by sitting quietly in a chair-no tv,shut the phone off and close your eyes. Breathe slowly in and out for at least 5 minutes. This will slow you down and refocus your mind.

It seems you have lost all control in your life because of things beyond your ability to change. But guess what one- thing you can control is what goes in your mouth. You cannot eat stress away (believe me I have tried ) .

YOur numbers are life threatening or even worse you are running towards many horrible outcomes like dialysis, blindness, amputations, and on and on.

The good news is that you can change the outcome. You are young. You deserve time to take care of yourself. I would suggest you start by planning 7 days worth of healthy meals ,shop for what you need to make those meals and then make ahead whatever you can to make meals easy.

I really am worried about you and hope you can turn this situation around.

Please keep posting on your success.

Hugs and warm, warm wishes for a good future for you.

Sheridan
