Newbie!
Hi all! I'm new to the site...but not so new when it comes to the weight loss surgeries!
I have battled my weight since childhood...I had it controlled for the most part thru jr & high school...once I got into college I fell apart! When I turned 23, I got lapband as a birthday gift to myself...used my savings that I worked hard for & paid cash for it! it worked great!!! In 18 months I went from 280lbs to 180lbs! At my 18 month mark(june 2009) I got into a really bad car wreck, broke a lot of bones, internal bleeding, all the fun stuff.
After 2 weeks in the hospital, they let me go home! Not realizing that my lapband had actually slipped. 4 months later & 50lbs lighter...my lapband was now cutting off all access to my stomach...i couldn't even swallow my saliva! I was malnourished...130lbs...my skin was grey...went back to the hospital on the 2 year anniversary of having my lapband aka my 26th (oct09) birthday to have it placed back where it was supposed to go! My insurance DID NOT cover this just like it didn't cover the initial surgery.
Skip to Summer 2010...I'm 6 months pregnant...haven't gained a single pound of weight...I didn't look healthy...& I start realizing that it has slipped yet again. I was so insanely freaked out! me & my dr both agreed that the best thing to do is remove it. It was a bitter sweet moment for me...I was FINALLY going to be able to indulge in my pregnancy cravings & my baby would be getting all the nutrition she needed...BUT...it was inevitable that i was going to gain weight.
It's now been almost 10 months since i had my daughter...I weigh exactly the same as i did the day i had her (i gained 45 lbs RIGHT before having her).
I'm now considering Gastric bypass...I'm eating right...exercising 3x's a week (all that i have time for)...& all i'm doing is maintaining.
my problem is financing. I'm STILL paying for my last 2 slippage surgeries...my insurance won't cover it...& I'm really not sure what I'm going to do. I have an appt w/ my dr next week to discuss options.
So...that's my story!
