Newbie from Alaska- Hello!
Hi all-
My name is Dee, I live in Alaska. 37 yo. I started a program this year and have gone from 225 to 206, looking to get down 135-140 area. I was very frustrated because for the past 9 years I've gained 10 lbs a year. I ate healthy, didn't drink soda or other empty calories, lots of veggies, and I exercised. NOTHING I did was helping, all I did was gain weight. Finally found out in November last year that I have a hypothyroid condition which I found a doctor for this year and started treating in April. I am seeing a Naturopatch and we're taking a whole-body approach. So, with my doctor's help, we eliminated foods I was allergic to (dairy! Who knew?), quit drinking alcohol and coffee, I eat an anti-inflammatory diet (much like the Mediterranean diet), cut all processed foods out of my diet and I cook nearly all my meals at home now, I take a few supplements (glycine, selenium, magnesium, vitamin D) and exercise. I also take a thyroid supplement as prescribed by my doctor. My metabolism is slowly coming back and I've begun losing weight. I've lost 20 lbs since April.
I want to be healthy again. I'm tired of being tired all the time, tired of being treated differently because of my weight. My wake up call was when I got turned down for health insurance because of my weight, despite having good cholesterol, pulse, blood pressure and all that.
I don't know anyone in the same boat I am and I haven't met anyone yet at the gym I go to. I joined "Body Renew" and what I like is that most of the people there are like me. Overweight and in their 30's or 40's. There are some seniors that go there, and some young hard bodied bodybuilder types, but mostly it's people in a similar boat to me. But I haven't met anyone yet, so I don't have a workout or a weight loss buddy. I thought perhaps an online community might help, where we can share ideas and support each other. So- that's why I'm here.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to reading what everyone has to say.
Dee
