I joined 3FC a couple days ago, but am just now getting around to posting. I am a 22 year old college student and living proof of the "freshman 15"! ...actually that's a lie! I managed to avoid the freshman 15 but the "sophomore 30" sure caught up with me and is sticking around. I come from an overweight family..my grandmother is overweight, my mother has always struggled with her weight, and my older sister is quickly discovering (much to her alarm) that she is looking more and more like mom every day. Throughout high school, I was extremely active, and thus weighed a healthy 115 pounds. Now, 4 years out of h.s., I have put on 40+ pounds that NEED to come off! My childhood best friend is getting married in October and my goal is to be down 20 pounds or so by then and reach my goal of 120lbs by Christmas.
Anyway, welcome! Looks like you're off to a great start. Declaring your problems and setting your goals to resolve your weight issues are great first steps.
Hey girl! I am new here too! So, welcome! Since you had some goals set for Christmas I thought I would share this great group I found under - Chicks up for a Challenge - Commitment to Christmas. The ladies there are really great!
hey Amanda -- big THANK YOU for pointing our the Christmas challenge; I just signed up too!
Welcome, JuliaW --- I was really active in HS and college and a while after, played a variety of sports (and had injuries), and now that I've gained weight I'm really feeling it in my joints, not good. You are DEFINITELY doing the right thing by addressing this issue promptly! Nip it in the bud! (Or, according to my favorite slip o' the tongue, "nip it in the butt!")

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm on my way to check it out right now!
You can do it! I gained about 20 pounds my freshman year of college (maybe more, I stopped weighing myself after a certain point) and lost all of it during the summer vacation afterward. I just started eating sensibly, like I did in high school - no more late night pizza and Chinese food. And I jogged about five times a week. The good news is that when you're that young, the weight melts off if you really commit yourself. When you're older, like me now, you run into more bumps along the road.
hi juliaw04! I'm a victim of the sophomore/junior weight as well haha and was a similar weight that you were during high school . . time for us to get back to those bodies, eh?
