Just a little intro....
Hi- thought I should take a moment to introduce myself before I dive in.
I'm a 32 year old mother, wife, gardener, friend, lab rat (I work in a lab, that is,) and all-around okay human being.
I need to lose about 50 pounds. I've never been so overweight in my life, but I suffer from panic attacks and was recently on a medication where virtually every person taking it gains 30-50 pounds. I did not know this until I had gained 40 pounds and the doctor told me that weight gain was a very real problem with the med. As soon as I switched to something else, the weight gain immediately stopped. Losing it has been a bit more of a battle, though. (As a side note, I took the medication when I was in my early 20s with no problems; my doc says that my age and the fact that I have since given birth play a big role in why I gained weight with it this time around.)
A friend and I are having a biggest-loser type challenge and so far I am ahead. We put money into a jar for every pound our friend loses as well as every pound we might gain during the course of the challenge, and we need to weigh in once a week. It is fun and keeps us both accountable.
I also use the Diet Power program. I've used it to lose in the past, and have great success with it when I actually use it. I love it. (It is basically a calorie counting program, but it actually calculates your metabolism based on the info you feed into every day, thereby guaranteeing your success *IF* you eat the amount of calories it tells you to and are honest with it.)
So there you have it- my story in a nutshell. I don't want to be this size, and I'm stubborn enough that when I actually pay attention to my eating and weight, I reach my goals. (I want to be the size/weight/health I was in when I left the Army.)
