I'm finding for me it if very important to keep of food log. I keep track of everything I eat and drink. But I also keep track of what food I resisted, I write it in RED, it shows me what I can do without and I feel better about myself.

Thanks Jemma-
That's the issue I have, nibbling out of habit, I haven't done it yet, but I catch myself, I catch my hand moving to my mouth and stop myself just in the nick of time!!!!!

Does anyone have methods they have used to break plateaus or massive slow downs?

I weigh myself 2x a week - if it's up, I think about why it might be ie. TOM, salty foods yesterday, etc, and then wait til the next time I weigh to see if anything has changed. If it's still up (and not in my maint. range) then I get down to it and do P1 again for a day or two.

Great idea! To write down what you resisted - that can help you spot your NSV's when you page through your food journal and keep you uplifted and on a positive note.

A few things to think about... the scale may not be going down for a little bit, but are you firming up, losing inches, feeling more energy, or having other signs that your body is changing for the better?
Be cautious with your amount/intensity of exercise. If you were a 'gung-ho' sort before IP and are used to lots of exercise and are back at it again, that can stall your losses. On the other hand, if you haven't been doing anything lately and you feel up to it, you could aim for a good brisk walk every day.
When I had a stall (and wasn't feeling well either) I tried the Alternative IP program for diabetics. My coach & I figured that I just needed a bit more food than regular P1 and this worked for me. My losses weren't quick though, my average over the whole diet was 2 lbs/wk including the larger drop at the very beginning.

Default bad attitude

I have a really bad attitude today. Had two days last week. On Saturday shared a bottle of wine with a friend then on Sunday had another glass of wine, small scoop of homemade peach ice cream and cookie, and a scoop of jambalaya at a party. There was plenty of OP things to eat but I indulged. I am lucky that I did not gain anything but did not lose either.

Start of week eight and I have not interest in buying more IP packets. I have drive 40 minutes through traffic to grab them. I don't feel like it. i'd rather go for a walk ir spend time having fun with the kids. I'd rather spend the money on school clothes and supplies.

Started yesterday morning back on track. Wondering if I should try a few weeks of Alternatives.

I just have a bad attitude.

canadjineh thanks for the insights. I might try the alternative program as suggested. I have been feeling off and unenergetic.

i recently started food journaling, would you know what the recommended caloric deficit is? I know that we should be between 900-1100 for intake, but if I am burning a larger amount on certain days I want to make sure I am still in a good range. Would -1000 be too much?

Hi Lala: You have come a long way! 30 lbs down! Are you having a 'mad-on' where you are telling yourself, "This diet isn't easy, and I 'deserve' to 'treat myself,' and I will, so there." At least you are facing the fact that your attitude wasn't good, lol. Time to pull up your sox, and tell yourself that, YES, I AM WORTH IT! So I will lose the weight and get back on track then I will have even more energy to play with the kids or go for a walk with friends. I feel your pain as it takes a bit of planning to do this. If you choose to use alternatives, you still have to plan out your foods properly and purchase the IP compliant products somewhere. That won't let you off the hook totally, ahahaha! Stay strong, you can do this, look back at how far you have come and don't head for sabotage.

Hugs!
Liana

Hi iPeeps - I've been on the program for almost 11 weeks. The past few days I have not been hungry at all. It has been a chore to eat all of the things I need too. I've not been hungry on IP in the past weeks, but not like this.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks - R

My appetite has been really suppressed the whole time I've done P1....it makes me SOOOOOOO aware of how carbs were affecting my appetite. The past few weeks, I do struggle to get my food in. Spreading it out into smaller chunks seems to work for me. I probably need to mix it up a little bit more lately, as I've fallen out of some of my more 'adventurous' cooking.

I have not done this, but have heard of others putting frozen spinach in their shakes to get their veggies in. I split my protein into two meals instead of one big meal. I have made a few eggs for breakfast before and have made zucchini "apples" for breakfast, which gets 2c of veggies down early (just slice up peeled zucchini, lay on EVOO sprayed baking dish, sprinkle with cinnamon, splenda and a little WF syrup (don't need syrup)....bake for 25 min @ 350F.

GL! I worry how things will be for me when my appetite returns. Right now it's not hard to avoid temptations with no appetite - though I'm such an emotional eater that I often was eating junkfood out of HABIT and STRESS instead of actual hunger.

Lala- I've had a bad attitude too, but not towards IP, I've just been in a foul mood. Grouchy, easily irritated...I'm trying to keep it in check but I sure wish it would go away!!!

NSV - Someone at work noticed my weight loss this morning! She just said "are you losing weight?" and I was like "I'm trying!" and she said for me to keep it up and that I was looking good. That made me feel really good. I have a ways to go, but that definitely gave me a little more motivation!!!

I read somewhere that people usually begin to really notice when you have lost about 10% of your original weight and this comment was made today and I'm close to 10% lost (19.2 lbs). Thanks for whoever said that.

It depends on where you are in you WL journey.

Daily weighing is discouraged in P1. There can be fluctuations in weight from day to day that can be discouraging to some. Other folks have learned to view each WI as a data point and have been able to graph the trend line.

Alternatively, frequent weigh ins during maintenance is important as a self control measure.

How long has it been? A flatline isn't considered a plateau until 4-6 weeks have passed with no change.
Massive slow downs are expected, especially the closer we get to goal.
The biggest thing to do is make sure the plan is being followed 100%

Lala..give yourself a hug. What have you done to CELEBRATE you since you started?
I see success here for your efforts so far...and now budget allowing a little something...new book...fresh flowers on your table where you can see them ...a new bottle of nail polish and lipstick? You are worth this journey...and deserving of some non food treat that is all about you, and a tangible reminder that you can and WILL reach your goal.

It doesn't have to cost much...it just needs to make you smile a bit...and know you are awesome!
