Unhappy Help! Dr put me on strict B.R.A.T. diet!!

I have been on IP for 22 days, and I have lost 17lbs.

I got a real bad stomach virus and to avoid Hospitalization Dr put me on the Adult BRAT diet.
Feeling bad about breaking my diet...not sure what to do. I know I can always just re-start but it just feels like I have worked so hard for nothing.

Sorry just needed to vent with people that could understand why I feel like I failed...

You haven't failed! you got sick there is a difference ya know. Always listen to your Dr. he knows what is best. I don't know what the BRAT diet is but I am sure you will be fine with it. Once you are well you can start again.. Just follow what he said and don't eat anything extra. Maybe you won't gain anything.

That is usually a diet that you get when your system is flushing out - so all is not a loss and please don't look at it that way. It is what your body needs right now and you can restart when you are feeling better. Stay focused and be healthy - because that is why you wanted to do this in the first place, right?

You didn't fail, but your body just needs something else right now. With a stomach virus I don't think you will be putting so much food in your stomach to gain much weight anyway. So as soon as you are well hope back on and I bet you will be just fine. Hope you feel better soon.

It is important to take care of health first. Maybe if you try to drink water with it, it wont impact that much, if at all.

I totally agree with everyone.

1. Get healthy, nothing to feel guilty about.
2. Get back on plan when you're all healthy.

There is absolutely NOTHING to feel guilty about. You have a stomach virus, it's not like you're purposely cheating. You are taking care of you which is most important. YOU!!!

We're here for you along your journey, you've had a little bump, get over the bump and keep on moving.

For starters- Congrats on the 17lbs lost!! Without your health, this program doesn't matter. Take care of yourself first! You are not failing! You are simply getting better. Just keep your eye on the prize and when you get off the BRAT diet, get right back on program! You can do it! Just look at what you accomplished already and know that there is more weight loss in your future!!

Just take your time and don't rush back to it. Make sure you are 100% and your Dr clears you BEFORE you start up again so that you don't have a relapse of it.

I have been on the brat diet many times for stomach issues. You have to get better. The brat diet helps your stomach and intestines prepare for being able to accept other food again. If you send down vegetables too soon and protein, your stomach will spasm and cause pain and sickness all over again. Listen to your doctor and when he says you can go back OP, only then, your body will be ready to accept it.

You are doing fabulous and this is a minor setback. Get well soon

Horrible stomach virus in my area right now, taking lots of people out! If BRAT is what your body needs, then do it! You need to get well, this is not the run of the mill 48 hr virus I hear, it's going on for days. Be kind to yourself, you'll jump right back on when you are well.

I agree with all of the above posters!

I saw you live in tx, and so do I. I'm not sure if you have the same virus that me and my family have/had, but ours was/is awful! Vomitting every 15mins (on the second! creepy) for the first 8-10 hours, body aches like the flu, diarrhea for a wk afterwards....It's awful. Me and my husband are finally over it but our children (2 and 4yrs) are still experiencing the diarrhea. I'm not a soda drinker (at all) and I nursed 7 up for 2 days bc I couldn't even drink water without vomitting. I hope you feel better soon. You can always go back to IP as soon as you're over the virus

Hey guys,

I know it's a little late in the day. But honestly, I think BRAT diet is not such a good option. It is recommended for digestive problems but then it is not rich in nutrients. You need to couple, your restrictive diet with nutrient-rich foods. There are a few diets & food sources which provide you the desired relief and make sure you get vital nutrients at the same time.
