I made a mistake starting this thread so let's try again and see. Here is my original message:

I'm not a diabetic but I have several friends and relatives who are and I have some questions that my coach can't answer. I can't find an answer on the website for Dr. Tien either.

I mentioned last month that my brother in law is a diabetic. Some people in this forum refer me to the Alternative Program and to also consult the clinic I go to. It turns out that everything in Dr. Tien's website including the alternative program is tailored to type 2 diabetics (people whose bodies can still produce some insuline). My brother in law is a type 1 ( due to a car accident where his pancreas was injured so his body does not produce any insuline. He went to the IP clinic I go to and all they gave him was the same alternative program. He wants to do the program, but his doctor said it is too strict for him, specially the breakfast. Could someone tell me if phase 3 is a good starting point for him? or maybe IP is not a good program for someone like him. I'll appreciate any comments and suggestions.

I would say that the person he should be asking would be his doctor or nutritionist! They will know his medical history and physical needs better than any of us would. Things are definitely different with type 1 diabetes versus type 2. Maybe they can see if phase 3 can't be tailored to fit his needs...
