I am planning on starting the 17 day diet plan on Monday, the 16th. Was wondering if anyone has tried it, has any advice, or is planning on starting this one too! Really getting excited. Going to be planning my meals out for the first 2 weeks.
What's it like? I'm doing a 7 day challenge thingie, it's kind of a cleanse. Basically all veggies and you can add protein as the days go on. Then after the 7 days you do what you want, but I plan to just start adding other healthy foods in. Is it like that?

The problem with the 17 Day Diet is that it's like every other fad diet (and yes....it IS a fad diet, or else we would have heard about it long before this): eventually you have to start eating "normally" again, and what happens then?
Plus, I tend to side-eye any diet plan that doesn't place a huge emphasis on regular exercise.
I know three people who've started the 17 Day Diet. One lasted six days before she found it too restrictive; one got to the second cycle before she actually became ill and was forced to stop. The third has lost 70 pounds in two and a half months (she lost 35 pounds in the first 30 days) but doesn't do ANY exercise and still drinks every weekend. I think it goes without saying what's going to happen to her once she goes into "maintenance" mode. Sure, she's lost a **** of a lot of weight, but she doesn't *look* like she has, because she hasn't built up any muscle at all. But, she keeps saying "Well, but I don't HAVE to exercise! The diet doesn't call for much exercise!" (I believe it suggests 17 minutes of exercise a day, but I'm not sure.)
In short: I think the 17-Day Diet is a crock of ****.

Bingo.
I swear I'd like to knock some sense into the crowd on that show "The Doctors"....seems like once this garbage was featured on the show, everyone was fawning all over it.
I've come to a basic conclusion about this (diet fads) and the same thing applies to most situations in life. Some people get it and some don't. And the ones who don't will keep looking and looking for magic until they get it. Get the concept, that is, not the magic.
I do believe that our lives are full of magic. Losing weight is not one of the magical places, however.
I have tried but failed a couple of times with it. However I have a friend who is a Sergeant in the Army and already thin and muscular *she does marathons, triathlons, and 5ks all the time* and SHE lost 10 lbs. If SHE lost weight, then I am pretty sure it is effective and anyone can. I just don't have her will power =)
The name may sound weird but it's not a weird diet. It's all very healthy food and if you read the book (before you made assumptions) you would see that each cycle is 17 days - there are 4 cycles. I am on day 4 and here is what I am eating today:
breakfast - cottage cheese and red grapes
snack - green beans (love them with Tapatio)
lunch - big salad with a chic breast on top w/ff dressing
snack - an orange and 2 hard boiled eggs
dinner - prob chic with some veggies
dessert - ff greek yogurt w/sf jam mixed in
I don't think I will be starving today!! And as of this morning I am down 5.2 pounds. SO don't knock it till you try it!!!

This. I've incorporated a lot of things from that book into my new lifestyle and its actually helped me. It IS all healthy food, and the book is trying to show some people - the people that usually fall for fad diets - that this is how you need to eat to be healthy AND lose weight. I already knew most of the things inside of the book, but it was a good read and it did help me along my journey.
I wouldn't call it a fad, only because the book is full of things that should be common sense. Mostly veggies, protein, all good for you foods... Hopefully it helps someone. Although, I never only worked out 17 mins a day, LOL. I'm lucky to get away with "only" and hour.
