Default I saw an actual pound of fat today...

...and BOY was it an eye-opener!

I was assisting in surgery today (veterinary surgery). We had a Golden Retriever with a massive fatty cyst on her side. My boss took it out, cleaned it up, and weighed it. It was EXACTLY one pound. Of FAT. And I have to say it was positively enormous. It would have filled at least half a shoebox. I couldn't believe it was one pound -- I actually went and re-weighed it myself.

The point is, chickies, that the next time you feel bummed/depressed/down about losing "only" one pound, please realize that a pound of fat is HUGE.

I never thought of it that way, thanks for reminding us that every pound is a lot.

I wish I could have taken a photo, it would have been a fantastic thing to post here!

I was totally floored. All I kept thinking was, and I had FIFTY of those in me? Good grief! How the HECK did they all fit?!?

And LOL, as I was cleaning up the instruments, I kept thinking, "I GOTTA go post this on 3FC!!"

I saw somewhere on here, I forget which thread... there was a picture of fat and a picture of muscle. It's on a sticky somewhere.

Yeah, I love that picture . Problem with it, though, is it doesn't give you any idea of how large the fat is -- it just compares it to muscle. Great pic, though. I agree .

That would be neat to see a whole pound of fat in person! I saw five pounds of fat on tv once, and it was nasty.

You're not losing all fat. You're losing water, fat and muscle. What you lose is taken evenly from all over your body. If you lost a few lbs from, say, your stomach, then, yes, it would probably show.

Also, the thinner you are, the more the lost pounds show up, too. I can tell if I've lost a couple lbs by just looking in the mirror.

That is an awesome way of looking at it, I had no idea that one pound would actually be that big.

I guess it is different when it is distributed evenly over your body but still, wow, that's like losing a foot.
