We are redoing our guest bathroom. It is a small room - small vanity, shower, toilet. In the past, I have had a nice "magazine" rack on the wall, much like this one (this isn't the one we have, but it's pretty close):
My question to everyone - what do you think of having "reading materials" in a guest bath? Do you like it, hate it or are totally indifferent?
I have never been a fan of reading material in bathrooms. Funny/gross story. At work we have newspapers in the lobby. There are a couple of guys who will take them into the restroom with them. After 12 p.m. I refuse to touch the papers...I know where they've been!
I'm torn. I think it's convenient & thoughtful for guests who like to read whilst toileting, however, it's also kinda gross if you think about it for too long. Having them available is still nice for whoever wishes to read them, though.
Personally, I don't like them to be visible. I use a hatbox to conceal the magazines and I also use it as storage for the TP. My bathroom isn't that big either so it is set in the corner next to the toilet.
I have a collection of Uncle John's Bathroom readers in my bathroom. It's handy for when I forgot to bring my phone and it's a whole lot better than reading the back of the shampoo bottles!

I hate the thought of anyone reading in any bathroom. My husband told me some restaurants put the sports pages up in front of the urinals? I almost threw up!
The thought of whatever swishes around in the air ending up on my phone when the toilet is flushed too makes me want to dry-heave.
I'm kind of torn. I think in theory it looks nice. Seeing nice magazines in a pretty rack in the guest bathroom. You see those in all the photos in magazines and on the accessory boxes. HOWEVER. When I actually think about the action. No thanks. I mean, I guess in theory they'd read and they'd have clean hands while touching the magazine and put it away BEFORE their hands get dirty. But still. I wouldn't want to encourage people to spend time in my bathroom.
Thanks, everyone! The bathroom really used to be just for us, since we rarely had overnight guests; but this holiday season, since we've done so much remodeling, we already have family lined up for Thanksgiving and Christmas! We were both torn, too - in theory, we liked the idea, but when we really thought about it...we thought it was a little weird.
