Default Curious about pants size/weight/height

So, I've noticed while browsing online that a lot of women who weigh less than me and are taller than me actually have a bigger pants size than me... and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why?

I am 5'4 and weight 281 pounds. I wear a size 22 comfortably. When I was 180 pounds, I wore a size 16-18 comfortably. I've noticed people who are 260 pounds and 5'7 wear something along the lines of a 26. Can anyone explain what causes such a huge difference?

I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas because it bewilders me.

Clothing sizes don't make sense. Not in the real world on real people anyway. I'm not concerned toooo much with sizes, just that I want to NOT have to shop at plus sized stores anymore. Doesn't matter what the tag says, as long as it fits and I feel good (*Ahem*... I say this now, while I am still plus sized...)

Also your muscle mass can make a huge difference. When I wore a size 24, I had a friend who weighed 30 lbs less than me and same height but she wore a size 32 from the same store. It didn't make a lot of sense since I was bottom heavy and she was top heavy so theoretically, I should've wore a larger size pant but I didn't.

I have read mfp threads where people with myeasurements wore sizes larger and smaller than me. I tried on serveral types of levis about 10lbs before goal and a 3,5,7,9 fit me and they were all the same brand. No two jeans seem to be made alike in size that is. Focus on how good u look in those jeans now, and maybe try and find at least one pair in the smallest size that fits u comfortably so u can say I wear that size. Lol

Realistically I'm probably a 14/16 right now. I'm 5'5" and 174. But I fit into a pair of 12's the other day that were just a bit tight in the waist but could be buttoned without a problem. I wear 18's because I prefer loose jeans and they vary widely. I've got a set of Lands End 18's that are just a little loose, and a pair of Eddie Bauer flannel lined jeans in sz 18 that are so ridiculously loose I have to wear a belt tight or they'll fall off. Interestingly, my 12's that I got into last week are also from Lands End, so even by manufacturer I'd say that they aren't really consistent.

I'm finally an 18, with some 18Ws too big now but I have 2 pairs of 20s (one 20W) that finally fit me now. I grew out of the 18Ws before the 20Ws even fit. I have 2 pairs of 16s that don't say W but they are Venezia brand which I think is Lane Bryant or it used to be 8 years ago when I bought them. These 16s will go up but I can't hardly breathe in them.

The sizing is maddening, which is really what I am trying to say!

I'm 5'9, and weigh 241 lbs. I fit into 1x pants but prefer 2x and tend to wear 3x shirts. I'm super top heavy though >.>
