Default Lipstick that lasts?

I have tried several lipsticks and can't seem to find one that stays on. The stains that claim up to 16 hours - HA! About 2 hours at best on me. Am I putting them on wrong? Dry, oil free, makeup free lips is how I apply it. Does anyone have a good lipstick that will stay put?

I'm a musical theater major but I have discovered that stage makeup lasts the best. I use powder to set the color.

i use L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lipcolor. It is two parts, the first goes on like a thick lip gloss...but it's not sheer like lip gloss. LET IT DRY (20 seconds or so) then the top part is like a shiny lip balm. I put it on at 7:30 in the morning and have to wash it off at 10;30 at night when I go to bed.

I have a bright red one from Nivea, but I've seen (and tried) other brands that have a similar concept. It is a double stick, one end has the colour (bright red in my case), the other end a gloss that you put over it. The two together stick really well, to the extent that you CANNOT wipe it off! Honestly, mine sticks for a whole day and even then I have to scrub using makeup remover until my lips bleed.
Maybelline Superstay 24 is one of those types. I've tried a tester and am pretty sure it works as well as the Nivea one that I have.

(By the way, I never use it. Turns out the colour is too bright for me.)
